Cool, but I don't think that's a '62.

That is what the owner said it might also be a registration year.

What year you think that it is and dont look at the engine as it is not original.

Hello Tanhis ,

For me this 34 is a 62 .
The engine isn't the original one , it's a 1500 s model .

Why it is a 62 ?
Because the Karmann script is on the rear near the tail light not on the deck lid , because early models don't have the water drain duct grids , the seat adjustement button is round , laters one aren't like this .

The "Karmann Ghia" emblem on the back and not on the engine lid says 'early' to me

Lots of things confirm that this is indeed a '62 but the engine isn't one of them. It got an upgrade somewhere along the way. Nice find -- good luck tanhis!

That looked like the later "VOLKSWAGEN" script on my monitor, but I guess I needed to look more closely.

That, the shifter knob, and the engine said "not a '62' to me.

I hope that the seats have been covered to protect them. Not to cover broken seats.

Looks mostly complete. I'd check the usual rust spots, and go from there. Yes, it looks like it's had some "upgrades" over the years (different engine, light&wiper switch change, newer radio), but nothing that couldn't be put back right.

The VIN # should say if it is a 62, or not ...

Like most of you I see evidences that it is a 62 : Karmann script on the left side of the rear panel, no air duct grids

But I also see things that do not match with a 62 : the two carb engine is a 1500 S, the buttons on the left side of the dash : we should see instead the "piano..sthing!" device with 4 rectangular buttons for the wipers and the light and the round half knobs for the wipers speed and the dash lighting.

This car is definitely suffered some modifications

It appears to have been replaced with later pull knobs to me.
I still see the rectangular plate there for the original push button dash.

Looking carefully again I see that the gauge on the left of the dash is a mix of two periods. It shows
- the rectangular chromed frame of the piano gauge, OK, for a 62
- with, placed into it, the round buttons of later years, like 65 / 66

VW offered a kit that had the pull style switches. These normally came with a blanking plate for the opening. That can be corrected IF you can find another push button switch assembly.

Those switches were just hacked to the piano button frame so that the car can be cept on the road. But really I would not be conserned about a small issue like that. I would be more conserned about the engine or the possible rust that might be hiding beneath the quite nice outside appearance of the car.

And just for a record if I can seal a deal this would be my second T34 project and third typ3 but first early one.

Hohoo! Another Finnish T34!

Tanhis is good at finding them, obviously. We wish you good luck in buying this!

It even has plates on and you'll get the papers from last registered owner, much, much less paperwork that way.

(Buying a car from other then registered owner, like heirs, is a tedious excercise in paperwork here. I had to go that route with my Kombi even when the registered owner was a close relative.)
