I found the details, 76mm crank, 90.5mm barrels and pistons (this makes 1955cc with the long stroke crank)

Looks just like my own black '69.

Would it have been at all been feasible to convert a LHD to a RHD? Thinking that if you had found a rust-free LHD '69, could you have just focused on mechanical work of switching out the steering, pedals and dash. Then again, I'm sure it's nowhere near that easy...

Hi all - another new UK ghia owner here! I've got a Regatta Blue 68 which I hope to get to Carl's level of resto one day!
It's currently fine to cruise around in and just needs some TLC before I eventually bite the full resto bullet Laughing

Been working on the dash, As the Porsche instruments are push-fit, it was necessary to fit the 914 instrument surround to the reverse side of the dash then Sikaflex it in place so the gauges fit in the same way. (brilliant stuff Sikaflex) Then made an aluminium dash blank which was Sikaflexed in place and cut the new holes. (The dash blank will be covered in vinyl)

Also found a rather nice vintage working Smiths stopwatch from eBay for some of the timed events I hope to do in the car which I've mounted on the dash, hopefully it won't look out of place next to the original fuel gauge. Smile

Dash coming on, need to make a dash pad for the bottom of the dash next. Also recovered the old dash top with vinyl as the old one had lots of cracks and bits missing.

Fitting the same gauges to the dash on my 69 as well however yours is coming along more quickly. Great work! Cant wait to see the finished dash.

Haven't updated this thread for a while as the summer has been mostly spent out in the Camper on the weekends and holidays, so the Ghia has been neglected somewhat Sad

Thought I'd cheer myself up by mocking up what the Ghia might look like using 'Ghia Designer'

Got some time on the car today so painted the insides of the doors with Waxoyl underseal in preparation for the windows going in. Also put some sound deadening sheets in the middle of the panels. I decided to just put them in the middle rather than the whole panel and very pleased with the results. Before when you tapped the roof with your knuckles it sounded like a hollow oil-drum. Now it just goes "thud" Smile

The doors don't sound hollow any more either. (pleased I don't need to cover whole panels in this stuff as it's not cheap!)

(that's old adhesive inside the roof - not rust thankfully!)

I had it left over from some work I did on my T5. I think it was called Damplifier Pro, but a quick search on Google and I'm not sure you can still get it in the UK. Dynamat & Fatmat seem to be readily available on eBay, the Dynamat is more expensive but I believe both are Butyl based products.

As for sticking it seemed to stick very well in the Ghia and the T5, in fact it took me ages to remove a finger from one of my disposable gloves from the blooming stuff !
