|

Greetings all
I recently came across a 71 bug that someone started to change into a baja buggy. They changed the stock rear drum brakes into disc and cut away the parking break. I would like to use the car for on and off road driving, but without a parking break it will not pass inspection.
Is there any way to fix this problem?
Thanks

You would need to swap the calipers to a set that has parking brakes. Look at some of the parts dealers under disk brakes and you will see the difference. You will also need the cables.
Are the tubes for the parking brake cable going into the frame rails horn???
still there?

They cut the original lines back close to the body, I found aftermarket calipers with E-brake at dansperformance.com. From complete kits to individual calipers |

You can run new cable and sheaths. Not easy perhaps but can be done. _________________ All types of off road, even water, snow and air. Able to nitrogen charge up 450 psi, schrader only. |

I cannot find e brake calipers that fit the disk setup on my 71 bug, so I am changing back to drum brakes....is the refit to drum going to be a problem? Or is it as sipped as just swapping one for the other?. |

if you are going back to drums, put 66 or later Type 3 rear brakes on. much bigger, bolt right on, vastly better brakes.
this would also be a good time to put a trailing arm reinforcement kit on. and if you are going to reindex the rear, while it's all torn apart...
this is how minor projects on baja bugs snowball into major projects _________________ 73 Beetle Baja, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 2220 ( 94 X 80 ), Weber Progressive, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats
