Finally driving my 68. My 2276 with SLR XR310 cam is just rediculous. Power doesn't stop.

Easy now, you just havent been in a VW with a decent engine before. 170 hp is not scary, - unless the car is not set up for power. Itīs kinda funny, when we get engines from abroad that have the XR310 we typically swop them to something else because we think its a little lazy. But yes, it revs high, and if thatīs what you want its the right cam.

Sumptinī like that Smile
In a given engine with a good combo:
FK 10 revs higher than the 86C
86C makes more power and especially torque than the FK10
Eagle 2292 is between the FK10 and the 86C
Raptor010 outperforms all 3 on hp, and revs high. Torque is between the 10ér and the 86C. Can be run with a sgl. Oteva S90 spring.
FK46 is a hairswitdth under the Raptor 010, but is serius rough on the valve train. Donīt use that one except if you have bushed the case and are ready to refresh valves/seats on a rather regualr basis.
Nowak 332. About like the FK10, but needs much less spring pressure.
And then we havenīt even gone into the Pauter cams.

This is OUR opinion based on something like 200 engines passing through the dyno over time.

try 105 degree lobe center from Steve Long on that 2276....all things being the same, you will be all in by 6500 rpm. Most of the power will be where you need it, stoplight to stoplight and not much beating you.

Mine is on 106.....there much difcerence between 105 and 106? This thing will brrak the tires loose pretty easy. And I don't feel like much will beat me right now. ...this motor turned out exactly how I wanted it to.One of the members here is in Salem and is going to tbrow a wideband on it when he gets back from vacation....looking forward to seeing what that does.

86C is what's going in the motor I'm building now. Got a shop now so I can actually work on these things much more efficiently.

Also running 1.4's on this XR310 right now. ...springs can handle the extra lift from going to 1.5's so I'll be ordering a set of those soon...should give me a pinch more. Lol!

Not necessarily much more hp, but more power above the curve. You definitely need to adjust the CR for the extra lift. At least 10,6 preferably 11-1. Then itīll rock, hard.

Alstrup is right....my compression on an almost identical motor to yours, except 105 degree lobe centers, is 9.5 to 1...RWHP dyno was 136. Probably with that compression at 10.5 or 11 at speed will offer another 10-15 hp, but remember hp is heat. Hope this helps....pm me if you have any additional questions.

Sorry to jack the thread

No problem with the jacking. I am here to learn. I wanted to run this cam with some squishies piston and a set of 48mm dellorto carbs.

Old thread..but I just switched from an exr304...Tim's stage 2's ...dellorto 48's with 37mm vents....to xr310 on a 106 lobe...Tim's stage 2's with 650 springs....same Dell 48's but switched out the 37mm venturis for some 40's. Unreal. The 2332 woke up!. Motor is out of the 68 now and either going in the 65 sunroof one owner original paint I just picked up or the 64 I may get this weekend. This cam on a 106 lobe 2ith the right combo is awesome. Comes on hard at around 2700 and pulls like a raped up to just around 6500.....it'll pull to 7000 but it feels like it stops making power around 6500. Damn thing breaks the tires loose easily and second gear can get squirly around 3 grand if it's not new pavement. Love it.

This must have been on a West Coast dyno......true numbers on that engine with 10cr should be around 140 hp
