seth,
i know this is a dumb question but did you put the 1/4 seal on the glass first before hitting it into place or did you put the seal inplace on the "c" channel in the window opening first then hit the glass into the seal?
thanks!!!!!

The seal should always go on the glass first.

Its a while ago and I have a rubbish memory but I could swear I did mine c channel first, then slid the glass in from the end?? Certainly looks like that from the pictures I posted in my thread? Maybe try both ways and see what works for you- Wink Lonotch is really an oracle on these things and his Ghia is PURFECT so his method is almost certainly the RIGHT way to do things!!! Cool

Great...just what we wanted Andre, many thanks for digging that out and sharing it with everyone.

One question that will be immediately asked is, "is that rubber seal still available?" Often it's said that the current ones are different and the cause of most fitting problems. Is that right or are people simply not using the right technique?

Thanks, John-- I hope somebody finds it helpful.

To my knowledge, it's the same seal as currently available... if folks could post pics or video of the trouble they're having, it might shed some light on things.

I'll confirm with Scott the source of each seal when I see him next.

Ok, I had a chance to ask around-- it is indeed the same supplier (we don't make it), but that does not mean that things haven't changed over the last 6 or so years since the video was made.

We also haven't had a flood of returns though.

Pictures would really help. Or if anyone is local to us & ready to do their 1/4 windows, pm me.

Thanks again Andre. I have the feeling the video will help a lot and as you've not had a lot of returns, indications are that there's not been a change Smile

I'm almost ready to install the rear side windows on my '59 coupe. I aways thought the rubber and glass went in first, then the chrome trim last. That's what I was dreading - installing the chrome strip to fit and slide in place. So the video is very helpful.

Thanks for posting.

The video was fantastic, really had been worried about that bit. All my fixing holes have been filled to so alignment will be a bit tricky!

ok so i know this is months over due but i finally got the other window to stay in....after another new seal it still wanted to slide out once i had it driven all the way in so i ended up using weather stripping adhesive all the way around the opening for the 1/4 glass and between the glass and the seal.....then pulled out the rear window and hooked a ratchet strap to the upper lip of the engine compartment and around the 1/4 glass and then back to the outer edge of the engine compartment.....pulled the sucker all the way into place and left it for a week! it has now been months and it hasn't moved an inch!!!!
thanks again for all of the help on this!!!

Finally got up the nerve to install my 59 coupe quarter windows, following Andre's video. Got to the point where both essentially stopped moving. Compared to photos I downloaded from the Lowlight Registry website for 58/59 lowlights and it appears that both quarters still have ~1/2" to go.

However, even though I scraped/sanded/re-painted all sliding surfaces for both quarters before doing the installation, I suspect my surfaces are not as perfect at shown in the video, as the car in the video appears to have been quality-restored whereas I'm just trying to work with a patina'd daily driver. Used plenty of silicone-based lubricant on rubbers/sliding surfaces.

So, I'm at the point where I keep knocking away and risk breaking one/both glasses, or stop where I am and hope that everything works out where they're at right now...

Any ideas?

Thanks for the video! Installed my quarter windows in about 35 min once all the trim was in place. We used windex instead of silicon lubricant. I was dreading this since 2008.

My car came without windows installed. What do I need?
Inner channel (painted body color). Does it go all the way around from bottom to top?
Outer chrome top and bottom.
One piece of window rubber that goes all the way around.
Chrome pillar
Glass.

Sound about right?

And rubber for the pillar on window. Are the small screws still in the body of the car to install the outter chrome trim?

Could use some help please. I am trying to finish a 58 Coupe. Quarter windows are in but I don't have enough details as to how the seals are cut. Looking through the Gallery and stickys just puts up a lot of contradictions - every one seems to have their version of where the seals are cut and how they match with the Door window seals. Dan Mercers appears to be the most correct IMO. Does anyone have the info/pics from an original car. I would appreciate some info on how the outside door scraper meets with the 1/4 window seal and also the seal above the Door glass
