Anyone ever seen one of these? It is the favorite of my stash. It is listed in the local tool manufacturing blueprints, 645. It is actually made by Matra and is exactly like the print, plastic tips, spring loaded keepers and etc. Proof that Matra used the blueprints too Interesting to note they used their Matra stamp, then used individual stamps for the V-W and 6-4-5 so they must not have made many at all I would suspect? Got it from a closed German dealership. Just used it again so I snapped some pics. I think its a little overdesigned hah
Go ahead and slap this in the tool listing Ev

So I have two 245a's which I consider to be early and late based on the serialized numbers on the back. Can anyone guess what the extra notch would be for?
"early" is serial number 1154 and has the extra notch and lower pegs which stops the swing right at 20degrees.
"later" has higher pegs and is serial 5373 with higher pegs to give it a bit more travel. What number is yours swampman?
I don't think I've come across any other numbered Matra tools, what about you?

mine is coded 2 56. i thought it was a manufacturing date.
it is the same style as the one on the left but it has two holes near the top and doesn't have the extra notch.
if anyone has a spare level like the one on the left above, i'm interested as mine has lost it's fluid. |

Mine has 10 56 on the back, I assumed this was date code. Only my guess really. It is the same style as Kommercial's one on the left with the lower stops. It doesn't have the extra notch, I'm not sure what it would be for, maybe type 2 or 3? Are there any instructions for some of these older Matra tools ? |

A description of what the tool is for is part of the page posted above, a full explanation would've been in the big blue vw folders, go to the engine rebuild section and it would tell you a little more about using the tool _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

i think you are more likely to find info in the chassis/suspension sections.
but from memory they don't go into to many details other than saying use VW 245a. |

That jig holds a dial gauge and attached via a lug bolt hole, and is used to measure front wheel nearing adjustment.
I have one, but still trust my "barely move washer with large screwdriver" method from the Muir manual. |

A while ago I bougt some tools marked MATRA W or VW from an ad. I have yet not had a possibility to pick them up, but I'm a bit curious if I bought something useful...
Anything in the picture that is good for 1960 or older VWs?

By the way, I have this (I think) rather old catalouge of tools, so with that and the section here at thesamba I'll probably figure out many of the tools when I get the tools home (but it will be in the summer) - in the meantime it would be fun to know if any of the tools seem nice to have...

Hard to see the tools clearly in your picture but it appears you have some useful pullers, a couple awesome drifts, maybe a flywheel lock in there and a piece of the drum puller. I would say you've got a good bit of stuff there, the catalog is going to be your best resource. |

I think you have lots of useful tools if you work on VW's and several hundred dollars worth, if you have some you won't use. Cool that you have the manual to look them up. Happy New Year |
