So, whose seen one of these?
http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4123327064.html
For a $999 "original" tent, I'm not quite sure I have...
Nope, changed my mind. I am... I'm sure I haven't.
Has this popped up here before? Some of the pics have a TheSamba photo mark...

Yeah, its come up as similar to the one it looks like - a VW tent but not quite the same. So its either a VW tent or made by or copied by someone else.
One of those unknowns unless a tag is on it, a stamp or a brochure is shown. Word of as guy who hear it as such a thing does not fly very far with me. Its a starting point for sure because legend on some of this stuff is based in truth.
You never know
I think its basis is off of the similarity to this "VW" Tent.

Looks to me like the poles are just put together wrong. _________________ "I will dream what no one else is dreaming, and will build what no one else is building" DaVinci I believe

It could be one of those things where the guy who has it remembers when his Dad put it on their VW. Not realizing it was a generic tent made to fit several types of vehicles - to include a VW. Not that it was made specific by VW for a bus.
But either way, isnt it still a VW tent?
Its been up for $999 for awhile so Im guessing its not a very motivated sale. It is a cool unique tent for sure, just not $999 cool for an unknow origin tent
Spare Parts:
I just picked these up as well. The center T's for the early style Westfalia tent - the common one. I went to set up a tent I had bought that had no poles. Grabbed my pole for the other tent and found these to be missing. Im willing to bet I put them in a box in storage - but I bought these spares just in case. So if I find my OG ones - Ill let these go to who needs them.

I have a friend (not on the Samba) who has this whole setup (tent and awning) and wants to get rid of it. PM me if interested and I'll forward you his contact info. _________________ - Ron Salmon

That looks to be the VWoA tent put together improperly! Maybe his "extra" set of poles he's adding in are the ones he should have used to set it up correctly!
I have that tent. I believe I paid $400 for it off the samba. This was a couple of years ago. I wouldn't pay over $500 for this tent or the yellow Westy tent! I've only used it once. PITA to set up. Almost impossible without help!
Make the guy an offer, but don't over pay. Not sure the stuff that was "added" (window flaps)was really necessary.
He's had that tent listed here for a little while now.

I was able to purchase another later style Westfalia tent. Im unsure of the exact age and it has a lot of different features that early ones and the later 77 one that I have.
Right off you will notice it has a rain fly. Very cool feature. Its an external frame like an early, it has a full floor built in and a awning with poles - like an early. But it has the shower curtain side windows, the rain fly and a different rear attachment than the early.
This ones in pretty good shape. Its missing a corner pull, has moth holes on the awning, has a seem pop near the front door and one of the hanging bands broke. Other than that its spot on with the original bags, stakes and what nots.

bought our bus a few years ago, and finally got around to setting up the westy tent. We already have snow on the ground, so my son and I decided to set it up in the garage.
Was pleasantly surprised to the condition. Complete, no stains, very small holes in the screen.
one question I do have… did these tents originally come with a storage bag for the tent AND a separate bag for the poles?

Happened to notice in the ad posted for the Devon MoTent that the bus behind the tent in the black and white photos is a bit of an oddity: It has a full size rather than a Riviera or Turret top, and yet it doesn't have the later ridged roofline you see on later Westys. I am obsessed with pop-tops that manage to give more headroom without ruining the beautiful rounded line of a bus roof...still shopping to see which pop-up mod I want on my beautiful AnandaBay. Anyone know if that's just an optical illusion from an old photo, or if this Devon Caravan is some beautiful one-off English beauty that happens to have a full-sized pop-up without that damned ridged bit in the front over the 'cab'?
I apologize in advance if I used any incorrect terminology. I'm still in the learning stages, though loving an early Bay has been a dream of mine for most of my life; one finally coming true!
