Found some more interesting connections today. Could this tentmaker be the original vendor subbed out to make the Westfalia version like I have?

The materials for sure, but its construction is more like this one and may be the same vendor used to produce this.

It looks like the same materials as a German made tent trailer I have seen called a Combi camp.

I'm not sure if it's set up right and the main flap (which I've got set with poles) has a vinyl strip and rain gutter clips. Seems similar to the brown one posted by notchboy on page one but this one has side windows. OVC is still in business as a DOD supplier so I've emailed them for any info on this model.

Sage - that thing is super cool! Cool More universal allowing you to connect the waning to your rain gutter creating a pass through or laying it across the roof as seen in that pic on page one.

Hook that up to your bus and lets see them together!

I was checking out my tent and found it was made in Nov 1968 and does not have the circle stamp. Does anyone know what the FW means?

Also, I notice that I only have one tie and ring to roll up the front flap. There is no indication they were cut out. All the others I've seen have two rings and two ties. Did they add a second ring and tie after 68?

Last one, are these inspector marks? - Thanks for any help.

68's are weird to begin with in that they do have some one year only traits in the build and grommets and what not. I dont know what FW is. Those last marks look like pencil? Like the seamstress used to mark stuff?

Thanks Notchboy. I figured 68 would be unique and with not all the quirks worked out. A friend has an early spring 69 tent and it has both ties, but he can't remember if the circle stamp is there.

Yeah, those letter marks are puzzling. Could be seamstress marks, but there are only two. I've seen other products with initials that represent individual inspectors at various spots along the production line. I'm wondering if one might be an early inspection the other final inspection. These intials were eventually replaced by the round stamp, perhaps? Who knew there was more to these tents than just camping?

Just to update my above post. I talked with my friend - his tent is stamped July 1969, has the two front ties, no "ABNAHME KONTROLLE" stamp, and two sets of letters - one right above the date stamp and the other on the opposite side of the front door. See below.

This is not a VW tent specifically, but still a nice one. It's technically for an Xterra or some model Infinity. Got it new on Ebay for <$100 shipped. Can be used as a side tent or a hatch tent. I'm thinking hatch, I like to keep the sliding door open for coming and going. It came with all sorts of attachments to hook it to a rack or using these giant suction cups. I'll get a picture of it hooked up to my bus when I go camping in 2 weeks.

Not a circus-tent, but our modern Add-A-Room is patterned to look similar to 1980's-2000's original German tents, while adding lots of extra features not found on the originals - for example the ability to raise each wall up to form an awning, as well as an included removable floor. Plus it's cheaper than most used side-tents. We offer it in brown/tan with yellow trim designed to look good with 60's and 70's Buses, or gray/blue to better match Vanagons and Eurovans.

As seen in these accessory literature. Yes Vanagon based but can work on a bay. Its neat in that its an awing and a tent.

Does anyone know a good source where to get old tent replacement parts?

I specifically looking for the pointy black end cap feet for the Westfalia Bay window side tent.

I remember seeing them a year ago on a supply site but cant find them now let alone know what to call them in a search?

Any help!

Notchboy, call these guys. Old school shop. They do all kinds of outdoor gear repair not just fishing reels. They might at least get you in the right direction.
