WestyPop....you can't comment unless you tell me how to fix the stake loops! Laughing

Not my fountain.... those are the seller pix. Looks like he just squeezed it in to take that pix. I never had a chance to take any pix on the tent setup when he delivered. Hey..... just thought of this.. he never said "fountain not included" in the ad, maybe I should try and claim its mine Shocked

Jason, I hear ya on the amount of bodies, I have 3 kids and the 5 us are stacked up like a cord wood. Can't wait to try it out. Is that the Kern?

So it happened again. I found a tent that needed a home. As I restore the 74 Westfalia, I've had my eye out for a super clean, like new original yellow and blue tent. If in the end I couldn't find one for a reasonable price - I may of popped on one of those super nice ones in the $1000 range. I couldn't put a nice faded one next to a new bus could I? Laughing

So as luck would have it I scored. I have two of these common type side tents. One I bought way back when I lived in San Antonio and a second bought cheap with out poles. Both in nice shape but sun faded. There were a couple of ads up for messed up tents with poles in the $300 range and was going to get one of them - but with shipping would be more like $400 just for the poles I needed.

So here is that luck part again. I found one in the Seattle craigslist. $300 with all the poles. So when I go to pick it up today I see the poles are super nice, like unused nice. Could the tent be as good? Hell yeah it is! It does have some fixable flaws - namely the front screen is trashed and the back window zipper is jacked, but other than that its super clean, unfaded!

Ill send this to a local tent store for repairs then it will be mint. So keep looking they are out there.

The 74 will look like a trailer queen with this attached to it Twisted Evil

All the pics in my gallery.

Wow Jason that is one sweet tent.
I have a luck story of my own. This last xmas my wife asked what I wanted and I told her all I wanted was a Westy tent from Bus Depot or possibly a Shadyboy Awning. She said go ahead and get what I wanted. Each is about $500 a pop.
As luck soon found me on "Kijiji" a local classified there was a gentleman in downtown Toronto giving away his 1973 Westy tent FREE to a good home. After a couple emails he offers it to me for free and I got it on Boxing day. When I got home I set it up and luck has it, it is perfect shape.
Turned out to be a good Xmas afterall.

Dang, making me wish I didn't sell my basically unused tent back in '03 or so!

Gotta get more serious about finding another one! Very Happy

Good find Notchboy. I really like the side tents. I don't use mine all the time but when I do, it's killer to have.
I have my "daily driver" version that I use whenever and then the "mint" version that just sits in the bag in my closet!
Putting up the side tent can really change the feel of the environment.
They work surprisingly well in the rain too.

I was close - Lived in Murrieta up to 05 (born and raised SoCal) then headed to Texas till 2011 to be here in Seattle.

I do get that a lot - the thought I met you part Laughing Maybe we did? Were we drinking? Laughing If we were then it would explain lots of memory issues.

I want to know how long these tents were offered. What different bags we all have and if they are original. Im going to pull out the other two tens to compare the differences. I didn't see a date stamp in this one. Split guys have these details on their tents and geek off. Why dont we?

People that know some of the history on their tents - Id like to hear it and what the tent looks like. For example - I know there is lots of stories about earlies having a tent with them. But we rarely hear about a 78-79 having a tent. Did they stop making them in the mid-late 70's? For the guys with tents that came with the bus and even those uber rare guys with the M Code for it - What year is your bus and what details does the Westfalia tent have?

I am very curious!

The '70 bus I had came with what I believe was the original tent. It was the square window style. That's about all the info. I have though.

Date stamp off the tent above I posted. May of 1971 production. I cant make out what the inspection stamp fully says?

FW/MAI 1971

ABNAHME - Acceptance

KOHIROLLE - ??

Anyone know?

Known attributes are the gold galvy covered poles - not painted and the three round top windows - two side one back.

Here's something relevant, from the hippie, pot-legalizing Pacific Northwest. Enjoy!

ABNAHME KONTROLLE = "Acceptance Inspection"

It's a QC stamp.

Red Fau Veh, that tent is almost identical to my Riviera side tent, however mine's more of a heavy cotton/canvas and was made by White Stag, also of Portland, OR. Yours is much better being nylon yes (?). My main bag is much larger, and yours folds up much smaller than mine, obviously! Mine's from about 1970. I have the same directions as yours too! We set it up for the first time the other day but it was a bear compared to a modern gent - ugh! Also, the snaps were ripping from their seams - the parts that attach to bus - and then I accidentally ripped a couple of them later in the dark! There are plenty of tent repair shops around though. Can't decide if it's worth it to take that tent when I camp with bus. But it came with the bus new so is def. worth keeping.

I looked hard for the snaps'/buttons' receptacles (?) or sockets (the female part) on and under the bus but couldn't find them. Probably due to years of mud clumps! Not sure what to do about that. Here are pics of it being set up by my husband/kids and then once it's up.
