Wednesday morning, 9/25/2013, downtown Branford, CT...
I decided that I had to take advantage of this magnificent weather, and drive an old car to work for a change. I have some parking light issues with the '69 Bug that I still have to attend to (fuse blowing situation ever since I replaced the clutch a couple of weekends ago), but with an early sunup start, I didn't have to worry about lights. Stopped in a very quiet downtown Branford on the way, for a quick photo-op... The '69 Bug (gnarly as it looks) really is a healthy runner, and feels great on the highway at 65 to 70 or more. Quite a contrast from the high-miles Taurus wagon, which feels like it's going to shake itself apart at anything over 55...

Have been taking advantage of nice weather recently and trying to drive the Creeky Bug as much as possible, including for work commuting. I can't tell you how much more satisfying it is to drive this car in comparison to my hi-miles '92 Ford Taurus. This car feels much more confident at 65 to 70mph than the "creaky" Taurus does at 50 to 55...
Anyway, starting with this past Friday afternoon (9/27/2013), I was pleased to stop by a very cool cruise night in Milford, CT on my way home from work (there was a VERY nice '70 Bug participating):
On Sunday the 29th I had to drive up to the central part of the state to work a "free stuff" day (the aftermath of a tag sale at the same location a couple of weeks ago), which involved some nice drives along country roads, in both directions (including another cool old car sighting or two along the way).
Morning ride up--a sunny start down near the shoreline--passing by a local North Branford farm on CT Route 139:
Foggy up in the central part of the state where the event was, for most of the morning. Moogie32's Ghia was there too:
Got sunny later in the day:
Ah, some nice country roads to ride home upon in the afternoon--this is Pent Road in Durham:
Very cool '63 Corvette sighting once we got back down to Route 80 in North Branford:
And then to wrap it up, I made a stop this morning (Monday, 9/30/2013) at one of the usual heading-to-work coffee stops that I frequent--none other than DD's on the southbound side Frontage Road in East Haven:
And then, coffee in hand, it was right back out onto I-95 to do more battle with morning commuting traffic...
I checked my odo and it's currently reading 20,047, which means I've driven the Creeky Bug 2,441 miles... Onward and upward... _________________ Stock Steve

Nice thread and good to see you are out and about with Creeky. Read all 4 pages, but never found any explanation how Creeky got its name? _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Thanks Mike!
"Creeky" partially came about as kind of a play on the theme of "creaky," which I would say is how this car kind of appears (even though now, structurally, it is rock-solid, thanks to the efforts of the legendary "Chuck P.").
And people who've driven old, decrepit VW convertibles can probably relate to the "sounds of body flex" (a.k.a. "creaks") that can be apparent when driving.
The other part of the idea comes from the fact that I live in the "Stony Creek" section of Branford, CT. I have "only" been there for about 20 years, so I am definitely not an old-time "Creeker," but apparently the really "old guard" in Stony Creek refer to themselves that way, and apparently also had "I am a creeker" bumper stickers made up somewhere along the way, one of which I was fortunate to grab at one of the little local stores very early in our time there as residents--I stuck it on the back of my '60 Bug:
Haven't seen these stickers for sale anywhere in many, many years.
Anyway, that's the story, Mike, and thanks again for visiting & checking-in! _________________ Stock Steve

Odo check as of returning home this afternoon reads 20,277...
...which computes out to 230 more miles since the last odo check...
...and 2,671 total Creeky miles enjoyed so far...
...enjoying them all!
Oh, I also have a new "car camera" (since my previous one got soaked at Hershey a couple of weeks ago and is now ruined), and have been taking more pictures of further Creeky driving exploits and adventures, but they sent me the wrong download cord (this sort of stuff is possible when you buy used stuff from Amazon-affiliated private sellers of used equipment), so until I get the correct one, the pictures languish... _________________ Stock Steve

Due to some apparent tire imbalance with the '70 Bug's rolling sneaks, I decided to switch over the '69 Bug's to it, and then fit the Marathons & Vreds to the Creeky '69. Easter Sunday afternoon 2014 was a nice day for it. I'm going to get the '70 Bug's whees/tires re-balanced next chance I get... First start-up of the year for Creeky, too, and after fixing a gas leak due to a bad rubber hose, we were good to go. Feels good to have the car available for use once again...
I have a number of small things to deal with on the Creeky Bug that I remember from last year, and now with the car in an accessible spot once again, I can gradually deal with them, and also have the car available for driving, which is cool, since this car is a KICK to drive!
The Marathons shown in the photos below from 4/20/2014, by the way, are the original set that came on the car when we bought it--I stripped and refinished them:
See you on the road!!! _________________ Stock Steve

Wanted to share some shots from the pleasant experience I had this past Saturday, April 26th, 2014, driving the Creeky '69 Bug out to the "Cardone & Daughter Automotive" of Westbrook, CT "Spring Open Shop" gathering. The weather did not cooperate fully, but we still had a fun time!... I'll go more or less in order with my photos as I took them that day, and will add more as I am able to find the time...
First, getting out to Westbrook around mid-day on Interstate 95, it was "The Return of The Rain-X Kid!" Ha!
And finally made it there! Lots more photos to come...
Great job, by the way, by the Cardone & Daughter Automotive folks for setting up and running this event, and for all their gracious hospitality. They collected nonperishable food donations at the event also, to benefit a local food bank. This was the flyer for the event:

Just checking this thread out for the first time. Creeky is a nice old survivor.
The thing that drives me crazy is that a couple of well placed whacks with the palm of my hand would probably pop out that infernal dent in the decklid.
Loved the car with its original look of hubcaps and beauty rings. I might like stock more than "Stock Steve." _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Thanks for the visit and taking the time to write, Greg!
C'mon, that deck lid bonk is a badge of honor! Ha ha!
The wheels/tires are always in flux in my world. It's fun to change 'em up every so often. Within reason of course.
Thanks again & have a great rest of your day! _________________ Stock Steve

Finally got around to concentrating on dragging old Creeky out for some exercise, this past Sunday, November 2, 2014. Here are a few shots from around the neighborhood that I took that day--and also drove to work TODAY! Current odometer check: 20,718... Will be following up next chance I get with some action shots from driving to work this morning (still need to download and process those shots)... Happy Tuesday! Happy Election Day! Get out there and VOTE!

Here are some photos from mid-January, 2015 in my garage, when I primed and painted a new *unclogged* intake manifold for my stock 1500cc '69 Bug (a.k.a. "Creeky"), and then got to work pulling the engine to install it...
Extra bonus in doing it this way because I also discovered a chafed wire that has been causing blown fuses & non-operational tail light ever since the last time I pulled the engine, for a clutch replacement...
Only got to the stage of buttoning the engine back up last weekend, but maybe we can finish that part of the job up this coming weekend...
Thanks again to our wonderful CT-based parts specialist BugCity Dave (https://www.bugcity.com/) for fixing me up with the nice manifold, and some other bits!... Onward and upward!... _________________ Stock Steve
