I recently purchased a 66 bug, but there are a few things it has that i am unfamiliar with...
-there are ducts that go thru the horn grills into the car....i have had people tell me that these are "crotch coolers", but are these original, or an aftermarket kit?
-i have the slot/track for a blaupunkt pullout picnic radio, is this original? and does anybody know where i could find the radio to go in it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The ducting from the horn grille is most likely aftermarket or a custom job. Empi made a similar vent that you drill a hole on the front firewall but wasn't duct to anywhere (twist lid to open). A crotch cooler is a triangle shaped (kind of) vent on the side of the front quarter panels made for later split window bugs. The look like early American cowl vents.
Radios are dealer options or aftermarket. Good luck trying to find the correct radio ($$). What year is your bug, the early pullout radios for splits (big oval shaped) are massive $$$ (could cost you more then $1500, same radios used in 356 Porsches as well). The later square (almost modern DIN sized) radios aren't worth as much but can still cost a pretty penny. _________________ www.runtrod.com

it's a 66, and the slot is rectangular, not oval _________________ Danielle

Hi, those fancy vents in there are called "Uni Vents" i think. I had a set in a Ghia of mine. They're cool and are spring loaded and can be positioned however you like. You'll probably want to leave them in, because without them you'll have a hole almost the size of a tennis ball in both sides of your front wheelhouse. |
