Cool and thanks...

No Wild Westerner from this point on should be scraped....

I would have gladly given a case of any kind of acohol for the one totaled in Mexico just to keep it from being lost forever...The problem there was not enough in my piggy bank to have it transported to South Carolina.

Anyone thinking of scraping a True Wild Westerner please let us know first..

One persons junk is another persons Gold.

Whats in your portfolio ?

I think you are correct. Look behind the rubber on the rear bumper and under the missing side marker.

That is the WW I found before, and now he has it for sale. Cool I see an early bus behind it, that must be new because I never saw it yet. That silver top paint has faded so much it is almost stock colors again! Very Happy

Do we have anyone interested in this one, if so we need the serial number.

Also ask how long they have had it and where did they get it from.
The reason there was one with similar paint somewhere Northwest Nevada a few years back. Can't remember the samba members name but it was mention on this forum, for some reason Hamilton comes to mind. Seems like a major discussion abt damage to the right front headlight. Some you with a better memory correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is the dog tag of the Wild Westerner rolling chassis listed on craigslist in Chino Valley Arizona.
Owner/Seller Scott

Mr Sunnydog please ad this one to the master list. Thanks

A couple of tips for those of you working on restorations.

I thought it would be cool to install a blue tinted windshield in my bus.
Wrong move being a tall person i can only see forward thru the tinted area.

My upholster i assume looked at the mass of my asz and recommended
3" foam under my butt.
Wrong move again, this makes my head rub the headliner so therefore I must duck down to see out of the drivers door window and was no help to the windshield tint.

Bummer to hear that you are short impaired. I am as well at a long waisted 6'5". I hated the tinted windshield Tram had put in prior to my ownership for all the same reasons. Its gone now, but my head is still right up there though. Im considering putting in 74 and earlier seats as they sit a good 3 to five inches lower.

Yeah...for me i have short legs and a long upper torso.
In laymen s terms its a long way from my butt-ticulars to the bald spot in my haircut.
Although i look kinda funny, i wear 13" shoes and the women Love it.

Went to Myrtle Beach two weeks ago just hanging around and did not attend the actual car show... butt cameras were flashing all around my Wild Westerner on Ocean Boulevard, lots of thumbs up as well.

Hope you guys and dolls get ur butts in gear... it was a long almost two years to get both of our wild westerners drivable butt i enjoy the satisfaction of my labor. Well worth it. Hope to have a gathering somewhere on Route 66 in the near future.

Do we have any being revived at this point ?

Updated list 6-April-2014
Changes Requested:
1. New Sighting: Benihana!chef! sent me a picture of another WW in Sonora CA that is not on our list, so I added it to the spotted: no details

2. New Sighting: Craigtee has one in Oregon that he thinks he will be selling soon, no VIN provided yet, so I added it to spotted

3. Update: The legendary Hamilton MT Westerner was re-spotted and photographed but no contact with the owner; no new details

4. Update: WW Vin# 2232 195 651, already in VIN list, recently exported to the German homeland

5. Rolling WW chassis with dark green and silver paint in Chino (listed on Criagslist) is the same spotted earlier in Prescott AZ by Red Fau Veh, so is already in list.

2232 204 892... 20 3...5-16-73 unknown

Five Wild Westerners have been rescued/sold as a result of our efforts; these are included above.
Redwagon, Boulder CO
Rixies Ride, (VW Salvage yard, No Cali)
Sullivan, (Joey-BarneysBarn-Portland) Now in South Carolina
Tippydean, San Antonio, Texas
jmattso1, Calgary Canada

Beacause of potential overlap in sightings and sales, it is hard to know if the ones we don't have VINs for are all individual buses, or multiple sightings of the same bus. So far we have documented at least 59 persisting,
Of which 4 are scrapped.

Update me with any mistakes or new info.

The door would be an easy fix just replace it. The mid panel would take some labor however, i don't see any rust. Definitely a survivor.

Well paint me a dummy...
I found an email address that i forgot about and back in October Mr. Benjamin Iveson sent me an email in regards to owning a Wild Westerner.
After replying to his email this morning he immediately send a photo of the dog tag, which i will provide as soon as i can figure how to get on here.
In any event, the serial number is 2232199641.
He will be forwarding location and asking price soon.

Look as if we have found 60 Wild Westerners.
Just a handful are deceased.
Another handful are alive and well.
With most being yard ornaments .

Hey Wild Bill, that VIN and current owner are in the list already -- don't doublecount!

Trying to get mine running. Several months ago I was supposed to meet up with the mechanic that's had my '79 for a year and a half, so we could work on swapping the engine into the WW. Unfortunately he never showed and now it's show season so who knows when I'll get a hold of him.

I have a customer that wants to do the paint for me. They used to have a shop and brought me pictures and articles about the cars they painted. Mostly low-rider types, but beautiful work.

I've been buying bits n pieces, like a new battery tray, but forgot to order the metal body part that the sliding door runs on. (doorway) Not sure if I should buy a new piece or try and find one from a donor bus. Also need to order the metal part right under the windshield. I think bus depot has them.

I was bored one night and bought some nifty seat covers to use for the time being. $35 for two bucket seats and and a bench seat. Kinda bright but thought theyd look ok once I get the blue stripe put on the bus. Once I get the seat unstuck I can tighten down the cover.

The lower track on the slider on my WW had holes in it and was worn down where the roller traveled. I ordered a new track from Bus depot and replace the bad sections. I wish i had taken pictures it would be easier to explain. Basically, I cut away and replaced the roller track downward completely but the upper vertical back i cut some sections and left sections to weld to.

The front area below the windshield I just cut out the bad areas with a 4" grinder (removing the guard) using a 3" x 1/8" thick abrasive cut off wheel. I then cut some real thin maybe 20 gage metal larger than the holes, slide them under the bad areas and tac welded them in place therefore to hole filler in place. For filler i used Tiger Hair which is a fiberglass filler rather than bondo. Bondo will crack under stress where Tiger Hair is strong stuff. I use the fiberglass filler for filling the gaps and then bondo over it to shape and fill in the dimples and scratches.

Keep in mind that I'm far from professional and never had any training what so ever. Just years of experimenting with my own vehicles. Maybe one day i will go to the Earl Schibe skool of auto painting, NOT.

Tip of the Day... The fuel tank i used was out of a '79 and had dead gas dried up inside. So i bought a canister of B B's (5000) poured them in the tank and shook the tank and water to rinse. This was done several times until i felt the fuel filter could handle the residue. After maybe 800 miles i pulled up to a redlight and my engine shut down. It would crank and immediately shut down. So when the light turned green i jump out and pushed the bus out of the roadway. Fortunately I had a spare fuel filter and screwdriver in the glove compartment, change the filter and continued on. Beep Beep
