I have a tail light mounting question. What is the correct way to secure them to the car? Screw the lens to the bulb holder, then install the rubber gasket and then mount the whole assembly to the fender with the wing nut? My screw holes are stripped too. I was think of using a flat speed nut behind the stripped hole. Please post if the JB Weld holds. |
It will be a while before the car is on the road so the jb weld road test is a ways off but the screws work fine for now.
I do believe that the assembly is mounted complete with the wing nut but I have not done it yet.
Look at the body/parts manual in the Archives and it should show an exploded drawing of the assembly |

Soooooo, I had this spare link pin sitting around and.......
Just in case I decide to make her sit a lil lower Probably a 2 inch narrowed beam.
I have found the place to get the lil gal taken down to bare so once I can get some help lifting her onto a trailer she will be neked |

Thank you for the encouragement.
Just need to drill the torsion bars for the lock bolt then cut off the excess bar.
Don't know if I will use it but it gives me options.

Took the car and parts to a blast/powder coat shop. Did not come back all that clean so I spent quite a few days getting it ready for epoxy. Got the epoxy on the body, doors and lids. Lil bits still to go.
Pan in POR 15. Engine on the way back to assembled. Seats and other interior bits in Powder coat and should have the redoos back soon.
Used the lil HF sand blaster to clean up a bunch of parts and the front beam. A bunch to go still.
A few progress picts.
I need some time to rest now |

Looking good bud. Hope all the duff is off and everything is sorted and sealed. Lot of elbow grease goes into what looks like a easy drop off and pick up to the local media blaster. You are looking good and glad it is moving forward, stoked for you. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

First I did the trick Loren demonstrated with the heat to get big stuff, then blasted what was left, then hand sanded, then welded up the final few spots, then used metal prep everywhere, then sanded everything with the DA or hand sand, then degreased and wiped down, then the epoxy. I sure as heck hope I didn't skip a step cause this old body is complaining LOL |

You have done a fine job. If there is some stuff found, that's the beauty of DP. Cut it back work seal it back up. Your golden bud, check your PM when you can. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

Car is looking great Dwayne and in a reasonable amount of time. All that work you've done and you still had the time and energy to make/source some of the hard to find parts for us. Thanks. |

Have a few sets of really nice visors left. Still in the dollar hole on the felt retainers so spread the word.
Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement to all. |

I have had some questions about the powder coating color to match the Stone Beige.
The sample at the shop was called Tank Tan. I saw some Dupont boxes sitting around so that may be who makes it.
I compared to some paint I had custom mixed and it was identical.
All of this was taken from the portion of the steering column that had been covered by the turn signal switch and still had a nice gloss to it.

Mocked up the engine last night to see what I was still missing or need to clean, paint or replace. Looks like just a few odds n ends and she is ready for final assembly.
Painted the narrowed beam but still not sure it will be used. Options Options.
After applying the epoxy I found a few more small welding projects on the body and just one left to go.
Last time I talked with SMS they said the door panels would be just a few more weeks. Crossing fingers. I also ordered the headliner from them.
Too hot to work in the garage so I may do a little more art work on the parts runner. Yes I do get carried away with my projects LOL

Give it a shot. You never know till you try. This is my first time doing this ever.

Well lately all that has been going on is soak, scrub, blast and paint. Day after day.....
I have been testing additives to make the glove box repops water resistant. Still looking for the grab handle seals to see if I can repop those.
KGPR said they would have the felt strip clips by now but I don't see them so that job may be on the table again soon.
I am kinda stuck until I can get some more parts. Once those arrive I will be moving again.
Getting more flower power on the parts runner. |

I spent a week in Nor Cal hunting VW and Pickin. I also had a private tour of the Resurrection Project and met Jason. He opened the shop just for me and shared the amazing work he is doing there. Very nice fellow. I found a bunch of bumper stickers for the Hippie Bus while up in Nevada City. Did you know there are young Hippie looking people all over up there? LOL
Here is a link to some old EconoMotors memorabilia that I came across
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7477324#7477324
I finally found some clips to hold my felt strip retainers. The pan is starting to be reassembled. Mike at House of Ghia has been helping me so now I have most of the remaining parts and rubber bits I need to finish the project.
I am at 1 year and 2 months waiting for my door panels and headliner from SMS in Oregon
I wanted to go to Gab-Fab and try to jet over to see Scott Doonan but I just ran out of time, and the patience of those with me LOL.
Had a great time and now back to work on the Ghia. |

Santa sent me some of his Elves to help. They said it was harder than they remember LOL.
I think the new front tranny rubber mount is off skew but I got it together.
Looks like the pan needs a good dusting
Front beam next then brake lines and brakes and..................... |
