For everyone else... If it ever got to the point where we all wanted to try and have a gtg (PDXers, wet westies and anyone else) but without the camping, there is a large park (Riverside Park) just off of exit 42 on I-5. Not quite half way between everyone, but close. There would be enough parking for everyone, jungle gyms for the kids, fields for the dogs to run and even a couple of geocaches if you're into that.

So glad to hear from a fellow vanagon Kelsonian! Your van is gorgeous! We too keep our Westy indoors - our only vehicle that gets that privilege. GoGo is not as pristine looking as Gidget, but she's pretty close Smile

Please do tell what local mechanic/shop you trust, if any, to work on your Vanagon. I actually saw another Westy in Longview (for sale in front of his house), so I stopped and talked to him and he said he uses Northwest Auto Specialist. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hey - Why do we always wait to have the GTG when the weather has turned for the worse?

I'd like to propose an earlier GTG this year - maybe towards the end of October? We had fairly mild weather in October last year.

That's a great idea, last year was too wet in December Smile

If nobody jumps with a different proposal, I can try to coordinate with the Marymoor Park people for sometime the second half of October.

Now I remember why I didn't set up the Marymoor meetup on October. The meetup at the XXX Root Beer is very nice, lots of VW including Vanagons and other buses. Food is not bad either Very Happy

Will try to setup a meetup in Marymoor later in the year, don't need to have two meetings so close to each other - however, it would be awesome if somebody organizes another gathering too.

I try to do all the work on Gidget myself but if I need help I phone a friend. There's a guy that lives in Longview (happens to be German) that works on all vw engines. The man is a walking Bentley. He is an incredible resource. He helped me rebuild Gidget's engine. Truth be told, he did it himself and let me turn a few wrenches. He has a day job so takes on vw jobs on the side when he has the time. If you ever want or need his number pm me.

Apologies for the delay, but I've been very busy at work and school this last week. Below are some of the pics that I took at the VW Fall Fling at the XXX Root Beer in Issaquah, WA. There were lots and lots of VW vehicles, if you were there and took more pictures, please add them here, these are the only ones I took with vans in them.

This was not a Vanagon/Eurovan specific event, it was overcrowded by VW Beetles and other more modern VW cars that I'm not very familiar with. I saw perhaps 10-15 Vanagons including AJ's l expedition-ready Syncro Doka that he bought from the UK (the orange one in the pictures).

BTW, I think that there's going to be a be a Beetle in my future, they're really cool! Smile

Sometime next week I'll contact the people at Marymoor Park to coordinate the Vanagon meetup for the week after Thanksgivings.

Any chance of making this year's meet earlier than in the past? It has been so cold the past two years. An earlier meet (end of Sept. or early Oct?) should see milder temps.

In fact, last year I was attempting to ready our Westy to go to the meet and tried to wash it. The weather was so cold that the soap/suds turned to ice before I could rinse them off. I ended up not going as a result.

Also, in the past, the meet has coincided with major Seahawk games, so it would be nice to keep that in mind as well.

Agree, I've been thinking of moving it earlier too (I also froze my butt last year). I'm however swamped trying to finish my final project at school (2 more weeks, yeah!) so I won't be able to even look at it until I'm done.

The Seahawks are definitely a problem, they're playing so well that nobody wants to miss a game Very Happy
