I've recently become involved with a really great organization called Movember. Movember encourages men to grow moustaches in order to raise awareness and money for men's health issues. It's a great organization with a novel approach to creating dialogues around prostate cancer and mental health, issues most men find uncomfortable to talk about.

I've started a team called Air Cooled Mos for anyone in the air cooled VW community who wishes to participate. It's free to join and it isn't necessary to solicit donations if you don't want to. It's enough to sign up and participate by growing a moustache during the month of November. Or you can donate to our team Very Happy

Here's a little info on Movember. Last year we raised $126M. 82% of the money raised in the U.S. goes directly to fund our Men's Health Partners, The Prostate Cancer Foundation and LiveStrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. In the U.S. out fundraising(8%) and administration costs(2%) total 10%. International best practice standards typically run 15-25% for similar organizations so we're well below that.

I'll be posting more info as the days roll by. If you have specific questions please consider posting them to the site rather than PM'ing me so I can get more relevant information out there for everyone.

Rock out wit yer Mo out!

I did it last year with a full on Fumanchu. Although I think it made me look more like the Biker from the Village people, Or a seventies porn star.

I thought the beard thing would work for it too...nope, just a 'stache.

I guess as far as an awareness thing a mustache is easier to grow than it would be say, walk around with your finger up your ass. Shocked

Gordo.

Depends. For the mountain or the refreshing beverage?

Beards are great but the moustache has sort of fallen out of favor as of late and is unusual enough so that it is a great vehicle (pun very much intended) to get people talking.

At the heart of it we're all about having fun so there's no reason not to get into your 70's porn star alter ego. Driving around in your ACVW just completes the image Wink

It's not just a moustache. It's a chair.

From Wiki.

Quote:
Other species named after Zappa include the Cameroonese spider Pachygnatha zappa, so named because a marking on the female's ventral surface resembles the Zappa mustache.

MOVEMBER MEN'S HEALTH PARTNERS

PROSTATE CANCER FOUNDATION - The Prostate Cancer Foundation uses money raised by Movember to fund research that is accelerating the discovery of better treatments and ultimately a cure for prostate cancer.

LIVESTRONG - LIVESTRONG uses the money raised by Movember to fund programs that address the unmet needs of male cancer survivors and their families. Programs will help men navigate the best treatment option, support them through treatment and help their quality of life post treatment.

Last year Movember raised $15 million for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG

My goal is to get 10 Samba members to grow moustaches and raise $20 each. Please click the AIR COOLED MOS link below for more info.

You mean Lance Armstrong? Livestrong has great initiatives which is why we partnered with them. Not Lance.

Didn't Lance start Livestrong? I may be wrong - and once again the cause is great
