It's origin is California , USA.
Thru facebook i met one of the past owners who drove a lot miles with the bus last year.

I also received photo's of how the bus was found.

We started the resto right away! Made a shopping list of all the sheet metal we will need.
Most of them are basic needs like , cargo floor , pillars , rockers , battery tray and the front pieces of the doglegs.

My plan is to save as much as the original paint and paint the doors and all repaired area's as good as it gets.

Some of my other plans are:
-Loose the bulkhead and make it a walk thru
-Add Semaphore's
-Add a brake light to the decklid
-Use European headlight's
-Loose the front indicators
-Use European 1955-1958 taillights
-Mount a T2A axle with ball joints
-Add Porsche 944 hubs , discs and calipers to the axle
-Drive on 16 inch Porsche 911 Fuchs rims , 6 and 7J

Why not , those things are reversible.
I'm gonna make it my daily driver , so good brakes are necessary.

I don't like the American indicator's ,headlights and taillights and will go for the European parts.

Just seems a shame IMO to go hacking on a bus that is both sought after and becoming quite elusive to find in mostly untouched condition both here in the states and abroad...I like your plans, just not on THAT bus. Here are a few good threads on PGSG buses, there are plenty more if you do a search...Good luck with your build!

It's only a box , this aint no untouched bus.
All the interior is gone , 15inch crowfeets are gone , no middle seat or rear bench.

To me it's a 57 kombi with a very nice color.

I hear you...I'm glad you're putting the bus back on the road. Who knows what it's fate would've been otherwise...

I will be very glad when the bus is on the road again!
Drove my past split daily for 7 years and sold it to buy a house.
Only drove splits from friends since then.

to me it's a beat up standard. kombis are a lovely shade of blue in '57.

thanks for not molesting a nice original car.

that looks like a cool project. if you need any original specs on the walkthrough conversion, I can help. I have the most complete original walkthrough PG/SG known. the '58 walkthrough standard is one year only with unique features.

Lind , i'm always interested in walkthru info but i aint gonna make it a standard walkthru.

My plan is to fit two Porsche 914 seats as swivel seat's.

Wow, brilliant bus and some ambitious plans.
I've always wanted a swivel seat walk thru and people pooh-poohed the idea saying it was too much work and ruining the original design.
I say good on you for your resolve.
VW put factory walk thrus on tons if not the majority of Bays and no one says that was dumb idea.
Improving the suspension, transmission and brakes is also common sense and I've done the same, although I went the Bay 5x112mm suspension & brakes route and use a Beetle IRS box with 3.88:1 ring & pinion.
A 5 speed should be good though.
I'll be watching this with interest.
Will you be grafting a walk thru out of a Bay or taking your pattern from it?
