It's amazing to see what some of you guys are throwing out.
Some of those buses looked pretty decent. Especially the 77 with the rack.
Am I missing something here?
(Am I a hoarder?... Shocked )

I think he drove that bus to unload the scrap inside it and on the rack. Not to scrap the complete bus.....

I'm guessing it was the bus and the stuff inside it.

Yes. It is crazy to see this stuff get scrapped. I think all these ACVW's are worth more to most people than the few dollars the scrap yard would give.

All the stuff i haul in is rusted out beyond resonable repair. I pull of any usable parts that have any bit of value.

The pics showed a complete cut up '77 body/chassis stuffed in my daily with a few other doodads. I still have the '72. It drove like a Cadillac with all that weight. Wink

After a total strip down of useful/reuseable parts, the rest went to the scrap man in a 5'X3' trailer. Smile

Some of the ones being scrapped here are in far better condition visually than some I've seen on here undertaking restoration...but I think those guys are little "buggy" too. Rolling Eyes

Here's something for you to enjoy -- every bit my son and I hauled off for scrap a few years ago, over a 7 month period (more or less):

It was fun to watch the Claw operator maneuver the machine and fling a vehicle much like a child who flings a Tonka truck.

Definitely not! Shocked It's sacrilege.

Oxford English dictionary sums it up nicely..
noun
[mass noun]
violation or misuse of what is regarded as sacred

I agree. I have parted out pleanty of cars but when they get down to the bones, just give them away. Somebody has a use for one of those parts somewhere.

I'm not one to get rid of VWs, but a few years ago I stripped a few of my very, very rotted out parts cars and got rid of the shells. It was still hard to say goodbye. Honestly, aside from the few bolts that still held the body to the "pan"... I don't think I left a single fastener on this car. It was so rotten, when I unbolted the front beam, the tunnel dropped out of the car.

Anyhow, the one day at the scrap yard, I was shoving a stripped (and VERY, VERY) rotted out '74 Sun Bug off of my trailer, and a guy yelled "Awww, you're killing Herbie!!"
All I could think was "Could you make this any worse for me?!"

I once scrapped a '66 Beetle that was so rotten it had no floors or heater channels of any kind left in it. While cutting it apart in the driveway, a Granny walking by gave me a hard time for destroying a nice old Volkswagen! And believe me, there was not one useable part left on it when scrapped. Even the roof was given to a local hot rodder that used it to fix his Willys coupe.
