|
|
I read in another thread that 61 had the crescent indentation above the handle on the rear hatch. My June 61 15 window does not have this crescent. It shows no sign of being repaired or replaced either.
Was this strictly a North American hatch?
My bus has no export code, so I suspect it may have been a tourist delivery.
Anybody know exactly when this crescent was on the hatch's?

I don't think Deluxes had the crescent. My '62 15 window doesn't have it either. I have noticed from the pics I have looked at that it's only standards that have the crescent shape.

OK, that makes sense to me, cause a buddy's 61 Kombi has the crescent, and it made me kinda wonder, but of course the panel/Kombi/standard hatch's were different anyhow.
Thanks, this was going to really bug me! _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

It's a year-to-year thing.
According to the Eccles book "VW Transporter and Microbus Specification Guide," page 31:
Date: 31.7.61
Chassis #: 802 956
Tailgate has half-moon finger/knuckle recess above T-handle
I'm not sure where he found this information though as I couldn't find it listed in my copy of "Progessive Refinements," which spells out most of the changes made over the years. _________________ How to Post Photos

That means 1964 with the large rear hatch Buses. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

I'm bumping this thread as there is new evidence to present Your Honour!
Evidently, the Deluxe did come with the crescent indentation as can be seen here on Ronnies 60 W/T.
My 61 (bench) does not have this indent, although the Kombi's and Standards had the indent in 61, so the issue is not yet resolved.
Can anybody shed any light on what years Deluxes came with the crescent indentation? _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

A friend has a 1960 Deluxe without it and I have a 1960 Kombi with it. Both Buses are completely original paint and still have the little rubber beading intact on the hinge. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

None of my 1960 buses have the cresent in them, 1960 15 (May), 23 (Febuary), swivel seat kombi (October 59) all original paint buses and DD panel (March) only had the rear hatch and cargo doors on it when I got it. I will also look at the early hacthes I have in my warehouse to see if any of those have the hash in them though I don't think I know what years there from. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

After reading all the post's I just wonder if the hatch on ronnie's bus is not the original, notice it is the only piece missing the dlx trim as well. I could be wrong but that just seems to fit in with what everybody is saying. _________________ Just a squirrel trying to get a nut! |

Good point Happy, but Ronnie's IS a Deluxe hatch.
So far, it is the the only known Deluxe hatch in captivity with the crescent indent. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge
