I was getting the 522 issue really bad just now and it's happened quite a bit lately. I know websites can be quite a pain sometimes, especially one this big. Hope you get it figured out, I wish there was something I could do to help. |

Update:
I had to turn off the Forums search page as it was killing the site.
Some searches still work, like searching for all of a user's posts from their profile but no keyword searches.
I am working on figuring out how to re-activate it.
For now, please use the Google search of the site in the upper-right.
It oftens gives better results anyway. _________________ How to Post Photos

Anybody experiencing this lately. Everyday all day just about.
Information
Search is temporary disabled due to high server load. Please try again later.
This message only appears when the site is very busy. |
Yes, the searches on the site automatically turn off if the site "load" is too heavy. This prevents the site from overloading further.
It's always been this way but we were never hitting the threshold before.
It will turn back on automatically once the load drops. _________________ How to Post Photos

I'm having to log in all the time. I don't see anyone else reporting it so thought I would. Work computer, Home computer, iPhone etc. Don't know if it's related or not |

So now even the user's-posts search is disabled? That's my main bookmark to the site.
Is this because the size of the archived forum postings so large now that it's causing these recent problems? The Samba has always had the best and quickest search functions of ANY forum I've ever been on... but I have wondered at what point the archives would get unwieldy large. |

I noticed that as well. When I sign in, I always go to the forums, then to view your posts to see any updates to the posts that I've commented on. That's been disabled now as well as the one above it that shows all the new posts.
I hope ya get it figured out soon. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Yes, I turned this off this am but it's back as of this afternoon.
Yes, the sheer # of posts in the Forums caused the search issues.
It couldn't search the list of "words used" in a timely fashion.
This has always been slow behind the scenes compared to the rest of the site but it apparently hit a level that was blowing things up. _________________ How to Post Photos

Got a few of these:
"Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/thesamba/public_html/vw/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 48
TheSamba.com : Critical Error
Could not connect to the database"
Sounds ominous.
Hope you can get it straightened out! |

x2 on all of this! The forum search is way more useful than Google searching the site. _________________ "The new Volkswagen 1303. We've made so many improvements, they're beginning to show." |

The ultimate goal is to re-enable the searches. Right now, keeping the site up and running takes precedence, because everybody (especially Everett) hates when the site locks up. Changes take some time but he's working very hard on very little sleep.
Thanks for your patience, we know this can be really frustrating. _________________ Donate to TheSamba.com

This was not an issue - I was restarting the database to change some settings so it was down for a minute or so.

Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, some stuff does and some stuff doesn't.
It definitely can work better if you are trying to search a specific Forum section. _________________ How to Post Photos

I'm betting things will be okay....for the first few minutes. Then someone will stir the pot, and then all hell will break loose. Like so:
