I recently got a buggy, but don't know what year the H-beam is. Is there away to identify the beam? It has the wide five bolt pattern and is a king pin. That is all I know. I am going to need to put wheel bearings in and would like to freshen up the front end when I do.

I have found it easier to take the old bearing with you when you go get new ones. It sucks to be in the middle of a project covered in grease only to find the parts do not fit. It sounds like you have a link and king pin front end.

All years of K&L front beams use same bearings (only difference being inner and outer) ...

The changes came in 65 when they went BJ and again in 68 when ID of inner bearing went from 27mm to 29mm....

66 was 1st year for ball joint.

Original LP bearings were typically ball bearing style and replacements are usually roller but dimensions are the same.

what about tierods and steering arm. Are all king pin beams the same? I will probably need bushigs as well. Is there away to know exactly what year the beams is?

You have a buggy, which means it's probably a collection of random parts to begin with.

The year the beam was actually produced doesn't mean anything. Link pin or ball joint is what matters.

The tie rods are connected to the spindles and steering arm. They could be small ends or large, or even drilled for other brands such as Ford.

You'll have to match what you actually have, rather than ask for parts from a specific year or model. Keep a growing list of parts to aid in future repairs.

I understand that it is a mix parts. The problem I have is I don't know of a buggy or VW shop near me (that I would trust). I have to rely on local auto parts stores or online. The parts stores around me will hire anybody regardless of if they know about cars or not, and they don't like to try and match things. Not to mention they don't stock parts for older VW's. I'm just trying to avoid the hassle of returning parts. Can you guys tell me some good reliable and trusted online store.
I do appreciate all the help you guys have given me. Thank You

Where in Ky are you located?
I know a couple knowledgeable shops in Ky.........I own a shop in Indiana.

Online stores are great if you know exactly what you want.
Most are typically order takes with no real VW knowledge.

Early tie rod ends and spindles holes are small hole.... Later had larger.... Get a half way decent set of calipers and measure things.... Order things according to dimensions you have on items to replace... Go to Rite Aid or CVS or Staples or where ever and get a spiral ring note book, document and record what works with year/mode/part numbers so in future you can work on the beast with knowledge of what items are and what is needed if you need to replace something...

I have been keeping a "log book" of all the parts and modifications and everything I do for my FG Buggy I autocross race, and it helps me to know what I have done. What does and does not work, and a record of things like valve adjustments or steering adjustment changes and whatever so I can gauge the wear and tear on engine and running gear parts and "go back" to known point where it was working before I fooled with it...
