I can not say mine is a copy since it has VW markings in it.
Today you can just as well be buying over stock for a 10 year old part.
For that vintage of vehicle you are still getting new OE stuff until it runs out.

Depends on what part of the supply chain they come from.
Knowing the badge is likely made in China means nothing these days since that is where they are mostly sourced from. Or Malaysia. Or Vietnam. Etc...
It was easy to order via eBay and fast. If it is a problem, I buy wholesale anyways....but for such a small order, I did not bother. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Many had this emblem in place soon after.

Funny how mods are rediscovered over and over- see how many people reinvented LED mods for example?
If you know about mods that are worthwhile how about posting them up like myself and others? I only do this as a hobby and like passing anything i can on.
Posting a reference to a member who did it once on a different forum isn't really helping progress.

Pimpy.
I don't usually find NB in the wreckers that have the badges intact to figure out if they would work.
Thanks for the info. |

My days of cross posting have come to an end.
Not enough time in the day to report from 32 different list servers with Vanagon related information being updated daily.
If one doesnt know already, the Vanagon.com email forum started just after the release of the Vanagon and without a doubt holds answers to almost all Vanagon related questions.
I get a kick out of searching there and seeing when the first post of a related topic was discussed.
This goes for the numerous Syncro lists, conversion lists, diesel lists......
Do some digging....amazing what is out there and has been done already. |

That New Beetle emblem would only work on the SA grille right? _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

I've got a Mk4 Jetta sitting out in the driveway... with a near-new emblem. Nope, it's been abused enough; van will have to wait.

Not to mention this one from 2009, for what appears to be the single-round grille, that no one replied to, using the same emblem:

It is just larger and covers the old badge nicely. I used a glob of high quality silicone and stuck it on there about 5 years ago. I'm sure it can fit on your original grill too _________________ '90 Syncro Westy 1.8T with 180hp 174 torque, CA safe!

I think the early square headlight grills have smaller emblems. I really dig the larger emblem look. I might have to look for one now! My rear hatch also has a dent, so I might try to get my mits on a rear hatch with a large emblem as well. Thanks for sharing Walt and Stephan! If I recall can't you also get the new beetle emblem in gray? That'd look real nice on my van. _________________ Check out our Our youtube channel: Https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-EbskIxNm6SYzsq4ugG81A

86-89 headlamp grills do have a smaller emblem but also have metal reinforcements that the later grills and especially the SA grill lack. |

Mid '88 is the changeover to the big emblem grill.
If you wanted to upgrade to the jetta emblem VC sells a early style(round headlight) grill that that accepts the large emblem. You would then have the big emblem and the ability to run superior H4 e-code headlight assemblies for night time driving. |

No problems with the SA emblem but not as pimpy as the more modern rounded version.
I have both the black and chrome version and they have been holding up great. |

Swap in a late grill and a jetta emblem or glue on a NB emblem and you are done.
Supa fly and you can see at night. |

I received the new emblem I ordered from dubstop (ebay)the other day. The emblem was under $20 shipped. This afternoon I thought I would document the install, which doubled the installation time to 5 minutes.
First I snapped a couple of pics of the old emblem I had painted silver to cover up the faded chrome. Unfortunately, poor old Vinnie hasn’t been washed since I returned from Mogfest.
I didn’t think it looked all that bad with the painted emblem, but when I saw this newer convex shaped one, I liked it much better then the old flat one.
Comparing the back sides, they mount the same. The original is a one piece while the new one is two piece.
There is a small VW logo you can barely see stamped in the back to the right of the Germany stamp, right next to the brace.
Snapping the new piece into place it was a tight fit. With moderate pressure the clips seated perfectly. No filing necessary.
In quick order it was reinstalled. I think the new emblem looks great. Now I need to log onto ebay and buy a new license plate frame. It will be just about as difficult to install.
