We sent Rodney down to work on the car for 4 days. Other vendors chipped in parts as well.
I've seen some pics. It's very Foose. Kinda like Fred's bus. |

That's the first time I have seen one of the TV shows actually give up on the original car and get a replacement.....Unfortunately I was occupied when they made the decision to get a new "donor car" and missed just what was wrong with the original Beetle. Was it typical floor pan and heater channel rot or worse??
Awesome looking paint, on TV... Rest of the car wasn't my style but Chip doesn't do stock builds anyway. I think the guys parents were a little taken aback by the large engine... but all in all it seemed like a decent job for a deserving guy. |

The car they built was terrible. Ruined a w decklid for that pos. Also dubbers toybox sponsered show and donated parts and didn't get any credit for it what so ever. _________________ Gotta give my props to:

are they doing new shows? I thought that show ended years ago, but I see new shows but haven't seen info on how to submit your car to be overhauled. Like I would have a chance. _________________ I know you would understand what I'm saying if you could just see my HANDS

A buddy called and gave me a heads up. Man, I thought AJ was older than that......Anyway - loved the car and pretty much always like a Foose design. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

I'm wondering why Chip decided to cut the old louvers out of the original car, and section them in to a perfectly good W decklid, when I am sure KSR, or one of it's dealers, would have been happy to pony up one of their convertible decklids, for honorable mention on the show, like Pierside, West Coast Metric, and others got...
The louvers look wrong anyway, it looks like a vert decklid, until you really look at it.
He had to cut the corners of the decklid to make it fit the curve of the '67 body, so why not cut up a repop? _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

I enjoyed the show, glad to see Chip help Blake the VW guy out.( he may not be around long) Chip gave him a spark in his eyes. It is a one off vehicle for sure reguardless what he did to the vehicle. It is a creation. Glad to here he is gonna drive it and not be a trailer queen.
Can I be next. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

i think the bug came out ok.. not my cup-o-tea but the owner seemed to like it..
what i didnt like is when chip changed the paint scheme after the owner already decided. i also think he should have shaved the bumper holes off.. |

I actually liked the color scheme that was ultimately done the best, but it actually looked better on paper than it actually turned out (imo). Thought the black wheels took away from the car. Don't care about the decklid (it could be repaired) and I think the point of doing it may have been NOT to have a vert W lid. I think the one thing that surprised me was they didn't drop in a Berg 5 speed! I mean you do all of this work, have Sims build this really nice lump, Foose counters the owners desires so as to not have a car like so many others and then sticks with (yes a competition) 4 speed? Thought blades would have added to the car as well - but all that is just my opinion. Blake was certainly deserving and as long as he likes it, that's all that matters. Heck, it was nice to see a bug on one of these shows. |

the W deck lid was a beat up reproduction second, they spent HOURS fixing it and making it fit the body curve. etc.
There isn't a gap on the car that isn't perfect, Maybe you don't like the colors or wheel design but you cant critique the quality of the build.
I think its a testament to their skill that everyone thinks the decklid is genuine.
I haven't seen the episode yet but in person the car looks incredible!!
Perfect stance, the 17" wheels clear and its drivable.
Also, you have to remember this was all done in a week with some $$ constraints, I'm sure blake would gladly accept a free berg 5 from someone.
I would like to see the builds of everyone who posted negative feedback on the car, cuz yours' blow this one away I'm sure.
I will have a behind the scenes video posted in the next couple days, I will post a link here.
And yes, Cherie and Jessi do a ton of work!
p.s. Rodney @ airhead is the man. he deserves a raise!! |

I think the car came out decent. I liked the paint contrast and where they put the division to wrap around the car. the stance and wheels fit the look of the car. It seems like it would fit in well into the vw scene like a custom rod/drag Vdub.
IMO It wasnt too far out, like the VW bus that they did with a weird 50s american car theme that didnt fit the style and lines of the bus. At least this bug still kinda fits in at a car show. |
