Also, in the first pic it has the normal 4 skylights per side, and the second shows the 5 per side he did... I never understood the point of adding the 2 extra skylights over the luggage area... or the 4th popouts in the same area.

In chip's defense, he stated that he was after what VW might have done as a concept bus, not a purist bus.... _________________ AlwAys VW, (O\_!_/O)

It wasn't my style either, but what was done was really nicely done. It may not be the style a lot of what we want, but.... guess what! It's not for us! Haha. I can't criticize in any way. Talented and well executed custom car. Everyone likes different stuff.... We'll all agree I'm sure... it was pretty awesome seeing a Bug on a show that doesn't usually drag up old school VW's...
Now.... if it were on one of those shows where they stuff 14 tv's inside of it and have the exhaust blowing bubbles... I may be talking trash haha..... |

I was impressed how they stuffed that turbo in there and while not the best thing-were able to completely close the deck lid. But where is all the rain and crap gonna go once it goes through those new vents? Hopefully they have some kind of drain system under there. Sorry for questioning the build please don't reply with any Chip is Mother Theresa comments like earlier in this thread don't get your panties in a bind girls |

I will try to answer a few questions and clear up some other issues.
the hood and deck lid have hidden cables to open them,
the deck lid uses a late bug hood receiver and a standard hood pin mounted on the decklid,
during the aired version of the show and original decklid is shown towards the beginning but later you will notice the interior of the decklid has the black "primer paint" of a brazilian reproduction, I do not know when or why the deck lids were changed but the completed car has a reproduction unit.
there is remote control actuated door openers using cables and break line tubing to route the cable, very trick.
the drip rails are shaved and if you've ever attempted this, you know how hard it is to make it work and look good.
Blake is getting his old car back.
Blake wanted no body molding but chip used his artistic freedom to use early model larger polished stainless molding. For the hood strip, 2 hood strips were welded together to make a long enough strip.
the time limitations of the show did not allow all the cool features to be shown. Hopefully, Blake can bring it out to some shows.
See lots of photos on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pierside.parts |
Is there fender beading on the car, it's hard to tell? |

Foose. A talented guy for sure. His vision is starting to date itself. I cringe at two-tones with a pinstripe. So 2003. My opinion, and only that. I have always loved factory style paint for the reason that no matter the custom suspension it's still cool. _________________ The best things in life aren't Things

HA! Touche- but a Palm/Sand with stripe is NOT a Kandy color with a charcoal metallic upper divided by an orange and yellow pinstripe. That's 2003! 1950's colors didn't try to hang on forever... I betcha that Foose guy can evolve. But new rims don't quite cut it. _________________ The best things in life aren't Things

Yes that is very interesting, because sometimes designers do fall behind the curve.
Here is a Hot Rod 7 question interview with Chip Foose.
Question 7 Chip is getting flak from Hot Rod about Big Diameter wheels.
http://www.hotrod.com/feature_stories/hrdp_1112_7_questions_with_chip_foose/
Based on a few different articles Hot Rod editors seem to be pushing back on the ever increasing rim sizes.
Foose isn't quite ready to give up on big rims yet, but I've seen Hot Rod's editorial content end ridiculous custom trends before.

What's the deal with the scheduling? Are they going to have any more new episodes on soon? _________________ 1969 Baja Bug 1500cc 70's style paint scheme
