So I'm working on a fuel problem and I realized that Texaco gas in a Mooseheads bottle looks just like Moosehead in a Mooseheads bottle. Could have been a bad deal for me, Just saying. d'oh!

So I decided to raise up the engine and trans in the Bug. I have had all the stuff to do it for many years from my first Volksrod project that I sold. Here is the before pic, You can also see a sneak peek of my new wheel color.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

With the 235/75/15's on the back it is 10 1/4" at the lower seam, I'll measure it again when I'm done.

Got lots of cleaning to do and I'm sure there will be some body trimming but the rusty body will be scrapped someday when I finish the Pickup cab.

Today I removed all the gear oil grime from the transaxle and applied it all over myself via a wire wheel on a grinder. Next I removed the nosecone and hockey stick and replaced them with 2" lower bus units.

Next was cutting off the old lower shock mounts. The new drop plate brackets I fabbed up have shock mounts on them.

I installed the modified front and rear trans brackets and here is a pic of one of the dropped spring plate brackets I made.

On the car. The bolts will be replaced with proper lengths and lock washers.

I can see already I'm going to have to cut the inner fender wells, I don't even have the weight of the motor in it yet.

Finally got it to fit.

I did some cutting inside so I'll have to make some new access panels.

I measured the same body seam that was 10 1/4" now it's 7 7/8"

Got the motor back in, I pulled the decklid off because the fanshroud would have hit the hinges. Also the notches for the exhaust don't line up anymore.

This is an old pic before the 2" trans and engine raise. You can see the difference by the gap from the license plate to the tire

Patty runs again thanks to a new battery. I still have to finish the mod for the clutch cable and bleed the brakes. I'm moving from a house with a big messy shop to a house with a 2 car garage. I think it will be good for me because it will force me to be more organized. I'm working lots of overtime while trying to move so this project gets put on hold.... again Confused

Looking great. Those are going to be a pair of wicked rides! I love the look of flat roofs on a volksrod - that scout roof will work nicely! I also love the visor and split windshield you've incorporated into your other ride. I'll definitely be checking in on these two builds!

It's actually the same build, I'm going to scrap the sedan body when I ever get around to working on the other cab.

After 2 or 7 beers out in my laboratory I had an idea. So I went to the drafting table and grabbed some dividers and a sharp pencil. After triple checking all my measurements I came up with this. Laughing

After hunting around on craigslist I found a Keg gas tank and mocked it up.

Next I busted out the tin snips and started cutting.

After closing the hood and trimming the hood 50 times I ended up with this.

The tank is back out for cleaning and plumbing up the sight gauge, To be continued.
