I am really looking forward to getting this build started. Thanks to all who have given me advice thus far. Look for more posts as new parts show up.

CB performace aluminum engine case showed up today:
94mm bore
clearanced for 86mm stroker crank, but I will be using a 84mm

I finally got the case apart:

I would look into replacing the oil pick up with a German one.

besure to clean all the gallys real good. and if you do the cambearing oiling mod be carful on the center one that is very close to the cutout for the stroker clearancing, you can widen it to the rear of the case(pully end)where there is plenty of room to work.I dont know why these new cases dont come with that done and moved about 2mm., be sure to check everything 4 times before final check&assy.

There's lots of sharp edges and protrusions on the insides of these cases as well as some casting slag. I spend about an hour a side on both mine to smooth everyhting out. I open up the small holes on the center main webs a bit to let air out the back of the pistons. I open up the space at the top of the case over the webs for a bit more venting. I open the oil return hole from the cam gear well a bit. I open up the hole under the generator stand a bit and smooth it out. Check the oil holes on the main baring saddles, both my cases needed a bit of adjustment.. Check the oil pump hole alignment. Find a German pickup for it. My first engine had an oil leak on the 3/4 side at cam gallery plug under the cylinders on the side of the case. I'm going to tap and plug mine.

Did you get the 3.5mm raised deck case? I only needed to put a .010 shim under my barrels to get .048 deck and should be clos to the smae on my next one.

Just curious...what's the issue with the oil pick-up?

I've been using the Brazillian oil pick-up for seven years in my current motor, with a brazed on extension for the deep sump. Everything is sealed tight and works very well. No issues.

Could yall go into depth about why I need to get a German oil pickup tube? What are the advantages of the German one? I also have another rookie question. What kind of oil pickup tube is installed on mine?

Just a suggestion. If you upload your pictures to your gallery on thesamba instead of hosting them on other websites you can refer to them faster in the future, prevent broken links and people who can't view websites like Photobucket from work can still view your pictures. All this will help you get answers to any questions you may have since pictures are so helpful to see.

I believe that one of the advantages of the german pickup tube is that it has a larger diameter tube than the Brazilian one, which means more oil flow.

Which is good for a VW engine. Smile

Actually, it's the angle of the tube in the pickup that sux. Try installing a deep sump with that POS you got right now, it's downright impossible. Get a German one, you'll thank us later.

Zac i think when ordering your case from CB you should have ordered it with the german pickup tube. This option is available.

I just checked the cb performance website and didn't see that option avalible. They have an option for case saver sizes but I didn't see one for oil pickup type.
