Are you going to do anything to the trans like flush or regasket or anything? Reason I ask is because, I have mine out and other than a fluid change what should I do? |
i drove the thing before i tore it down so i know that it is ok but i will tear it down and check every thing out replace the seals fluid clean the case add new fluid because i am restoring everything on the car. On yours if you know it is ok replace the main and side seals clean and replace fluid it is a lot easier now than after it is all together. |

I sandblasted it to find the holes the main holes were in the end I had a new 40 hp bug muffler so i cut the end off and welded it to the end of the thing exhaust a couple of small holes i welded up a little more work and i think it will be saved.

Yes The Domeck Brothers Ron and me are lucky He does all the body and paint work i do all the machine work and building of the frame engine and transmission and we both put them together. He does'nt like to get greasey and I don't like to get dusty so it works out good. |

Wish I had a brother. I do all of the paint and body, plus mechanical work myself. Not equipped to do my own machine work yet. I'd love to have the money to invest in the equipment. There isn't a shop within 200 miles of me that does VW machine work. A couple of guys with line bore bars, but I want a true machine shop. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Who do you get your repair panels from?
I have this one and I was thinking it was beyond saving.

yp here in the rusty new england, that'd be called "minor rust".
I once travelled 100 mile one way to look at a subaru brat that had "no rust" . Well, what they meant was the rust had been oshpo'd and painted, but the holes were big enough to throw a dog through. You could see the shocks from inside the bed. _________________ Tilda the Mustard Tigress 1973 Squareback (o'''^'''o)

update cut out the rust on the side on the front so I can replace both side panels. today I went out behind brothers garage and cut out a lower front where it mounts on the frame because mine is completely gone where the big 4 bolts hold on the frame also brother found me a almost rust free rear half maybe this week I can get them cut up to get the sheet metal I need for the front

just a little update I get a little time in between building other peoples things Ron and I just took a couple weeks and put the body back together we replaced both the side panels inner and outer replaced all the rust panels with new or reclaimed sheet metal from other things it took a lot of things to restore this thing but I just could not let it go the body was sandblasted first all dimensions were put back to factory specs, I took the frame to be sandblasted today at least it looks like a thing now. the primer is in red but the paint will be in stock orange a lot to go to get it ready for paint.
