Have not a clue to source of frame, but front suspension is ball joint and transaxle is late IRS ( 69 or later)....

Not that it really matters, but I think the single side cover case was 73 and up, and the new stronger side covers were used from 75 and up...again, not that it matters, the internal guts are still the same as far as I know. Now, if you have the stronger side cover, you got one nice solid transmission case!
The 3.875 ring and pinion may be on the tall side for off roading...especially in fourth gear...especially with bigger rear tires.
I also noticed the "coil over shocks" on the back. If it rides stiff you might consider ditching them and running light gas charged shocks, or even plain old oil shocks. You probably could benefit from some light shocks on the front too. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

So I checked out your other pictures, and I found this...
You have the stronger 75 and up side cover with the extra reinforcing ring. Congratulations, you have the strongest stock VW bug case made
You might also have the luxury of a longer clutch lever arm for lighter foot pedal action. I forget when that was introduced, but it was sometime around then. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

I like how someone thought to put the rubber seal on the nose cone... you know, to help seal up the tunnel _________________ "...What, like the back of a Volkswagen?" |

Thanks you for the info. I am new to rail buggies and did not know what I have, or if it was even worth building. So the IRS is out out of a car or bus? And if I put shorter wider tractor tires on it, will that help the trans out any as far as the 3.875 gear goes? |

I have that same frame, IRS, and BJ front suspension. If you're planning on offroading in fourth on tall tires, you might want to just save time and have someone kick your spine.
What are you wanting to do with it? Mess around off road only, or drive it a bit? _________________ "If you had a beer can in your hand the beer would have stopped it, alcohol is a natural force of good that keeps you from getting hurt, unless you're city people...." |

I think it is a Warrior.
The 290 and 295 have an extra brace running from the inside of the top rail down to the torsion horns.
The Warrior does not.

But it would be good to add that tube so your frame horns don't break. If you had a swingaxle, those tubes would get in the way of installing or removing the trans. In that case, the braces need to bolt in place. But since you have an IRS, the axles unbolt from the trans and R&R is EZ with those braces. Note that they have to clear the bellhousing, starter and headers. _________________ Richard
