Thanks Tacochris. I'm still undecided if I did the right thing by doing slotted wheels. I can always do some smoothies for this car, and put these on my 67. I went with the slotted wheels because the 356 Porsche wheels had similar slots. Dean

Great choice. Slotted looks sick.

When I think of widened smoothies, I have a picture of Herbie in my mind, something like (below image courtesy of samba member Jim Douglas Jr.):

EDIT: A search of Jim's gallery also reveals the ready-to-rally "no hubcaps look," below, very cool:

I have been thinking about doing up a similar-style set of wheels & tires for my '60 Bug (not a Herbie replica).

Will continue to watch this thread for ideas, and really enjoying all the various different interpretations on the theme.

I'm working on a pair for the rear of my '64 using 5.5" Porsche 912 rims. They don't have a safety bead so the lip is smooth all the way out. The drop center is farther inward than most so they look deeper than they actually are.

Will be painted L289 Blue-White and L41 black with a narrow portawalls to match the original spare.

Thanks for posting my car!! I uploaded it one night and it spread all over the internet like wildfire. Well I was bored one night and decided to take pics because the car had been sitting on these widened steelies for about 2-3 years i forget, and had never really been driven sat in my side yard the whole time. So i decided it needs to be out and about more.

Here is a front shot.

Wow, nice work! Nice color combo!

I redid some stock smoothie wheels recently for moogie32's Pacific Blue '63 Ghia Convertible, that needed L289 Blue White inners (which looks more to me like a light mint green), and black outers. This picture unfortunately doesn't do the color justice:

Same here--wow, what's that color called? It's kinda like Mango Green on steroids.
