They look good! It's too bad they didn't widen them as much as you wanted. _________________ 62 Rag - a little crusty |

Where are you guys getting these widened? I got in touch with a guy over a month ago, can't get in touch with him now, won't return calls…very annoying. |

Another I found on Instagram, username is "plainpaul". No specs found except 135's on the front and the rear wheels are 8".

Thank you for the info theastronaut! Those non-stepped lips look very nice, would love to see them with tires mounted and on a car! |
Here they are on my buddy Sam's '65.

I've asked him once or twice and he doesn't share much information as far as rear tire size, etc. |
Right. I looked through all the comments to see if he posted sizes and that's all I found. Anyone at a show could look at the sidewalls and see for themselves; I don't get why some guys are so secretive about their setup. _________________ Strive for perfection in everything. I also asked that dude about his setup and didn't get a response.
Worth noting, those aren't the regular 135s on the front. They're some euro low profile 135s. _________________ I run two fuel filters in my engine bay. |

Turned out great!
And thanks for sharing the other pic of the 8's on Mr Secret Setups car, those look sweet. If I ever stop spending on my FC RX7 and my WRX I'll get a set of 8s for the ragtop My goal is 8s in the rear and 6s up front with the closest to stock width beam I can manage. I'll shorten the frame head enough to center the wheels so the front tires can rub up top like they're supposed to _________________ 62 Rag - a little crusty |

I 'just' had my 7.5" wide rear smoothies off and was measuring things figuring out width and back space for something else. IF those are 8" wide and he tucks like that:
You can see he has the tire stretched to fit the rim, probably something better suited for a 6-7" rim like a 205 wide tire. A wider tire with a straight sidewall would hit the fender lip, you can see it in the pic. He is surely running short early axles. Later axles need more backspace and don't look so nice and deep. My wheels at 7.5" wide have just over 3.5" backspace, not quite 3.75". I can fit a finger between the wheel and spring plate, and a pencil between the 225/55/15. I bet he is running the rim right next to the spring plate, with 3.75" back space, and has the tires stretched like that so they don't bulge and hit the spring plate.
I personally like to see a tire fit the rim well, and then fit the car well. |

A 205 wont stretch on a 8" rim. That is most likely a 195. The fronts possibly a 165/50-15 or similar. A 225 is a bit of overkill for a 7.5" rim. You could get away with a 205 or 215 and have a ton more space in the rear. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

Long time lurker, but finally have some results to post up. This thread inspired me to go widened smoothies. The rears are 6" with 205/70r15s lowered one inner spline. Front is standard adjustable beam, drop spindles, with stock smoothies and 145r15s. I still have some work to do before its on the road, but the look is finalized.

Funny (to me atleast) that guys are ditching the super-narrowed beams and running wider wheels that fill out the fenderwells now. I have 5.5's Mangels and 195/50s on a 3" beam that barely rub like you're talking about, up top. Way better than the old 4.5's and 145s. Plenty of room for 6" up front (or move the backspacing 1/2") and run narrower tires for less of a tucked look.

Finally finished my set of 4's and 5.5's. Hoping to eventually get another pair banded to 7" for the rear and move the 5.5's to the front.
Smoothed the letters of the tires so the portawalls will lay flat. Smoothie wheels need smoothie tires.

Wheels look great astronaut! And yeah, I've never been a fan of the extremely narrowed front beams. Mine is a 3 inch with chrome 5.5 inch stockers. I need to find a stock beam eventually now
I would also love it if we had a good option for stock style smoothies in a 16 inch. Would look a little more subtle than the 17s and lots of tire options. _________________ 62 Rag - a little crusty |

Thanks! I'm restoring a '55 International pickup that has 16's with barrels that would fit smoothie centers with about a 1/16" thick "shim" to take up the difference in the ID vs the OD of the smoothies (Int wheel is about 1/8" bigger ID). They have a really cool 45* step in the lip, much like stepped lips for 3 piece wheels. They're only 5" wide though, would have to have the rears banded.

The original build thread is here, it's copy/pasted on Binder Planet and OldIHC as well.
