Sunday was a decent day for a drive. We took a ride to Ingleside mall in Holyoke MA. Left A Bomb at home during storm Darius. Good call the lot at work wasn't plowed when I got there. Next day the trip to work was a little dicey but OK over all. Yesterday made a gas run then drove out to Somers Ct. Forgot the camera since I didn't plan on taking it for a drive. Averaging just over 25 MPG right now.
Birds eye view during snow removal on the roof.

Great stuff, Brent! Keep on rolling along!
Can't wait to get my '69 Bug rolling along again soon--possibly with some actual *heat* for the first time ever (since I've owned it).
You are my inspiration!
P.S.: Your photos are *great*--and so much more pleasing to view them here in all their *richness* (not that I don't enjoy your FB posts also, as I am a confirmed FB-hound). |
Thanks Steve! These cars are the inspiration. If things don't work out for the next 7 months who am I to complain when a 49 year old doesn't get me to work? _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

Nice last picture. You look cold! |
It was actually warm that day. 30° that combined with the sun , black snow suit and shuveling four feet of snow off the porch was t shirt weather. Not todays temps! Its gonna be extremely cold and snowy for the next few days. The hat and gloves thing was for a goofy shot. Kind of like a Mr Wilson thing from the old show Home Improvement. I always post these kinds of pics for my profile on fb. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

My wife just sat in my project after months of ridicule, and she was HOOKED! She can't wait for it to be on the road again. _________________ .

DAY 166
It figures I decide to try this driving a 66 Beetle during a record snow and record cold winter! The average temperatures are 20 degrees colder than normal for this time of year. It isn’t going to get much better for the week ahead and this weekend is our weekly snow storm. Anyhow I’ve been holding off for a better day to adjust the brakes. I decided today was it at 15 degrees for the high. Its been 2363 miles and 5 months since I last adjusted them. I figured with all the city driving it was time. I think the manual says 6 months 6000 miles. I printed out the section from the Bentley and laminated it for reference just to keep me from turning the adjuster the wrong way forever.

Week 24
Just under 100 miles this week. I was at Wally World Thursday when I met Marty from Fed Ex. He liked the car and told me he recently picked up a 68. He asked if they are easy to work on. I told him they got together and said “lets see how few parts we can use to make a car”.
I had a trip planned to Westbrook CT last night but our weekly snow storm turned into a blizzard instead. We had a sitter lined up hit the road and the back window was covered with snow by the time we got three houses down. I turned the corner and two cars collided with each other. I decided we weren’t gonna go 50 plus miles in that.

DAY 159
new record for the car yesterday, it was outside since early in the day. At 10:30PM it was 0° it started but was a little slow turning over. Drove home fine but it's a rough ride now with all the frost heaves in the roads. |
I beat that on day 166 at -2. |
Monday I thought I was going to break the low temperature driving record from Day 166 of -3° but by the time I left work it wasn't -6° like they had predicted. Close call but I'm good.
DAY 172
Pretty mundane week to and from work so far with the exception of one extra day Sunday due to the snow storm but then again that is the life of a daily driver. I really need to get some highway mileage on this week. Hopefully tomorrow. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=
