Thanks Ghia Nut! I'm enjoying making it. Getting through this winter has been challenging and sometimes I think next year at this time I'll be driving something more modern. Then I bet three days later I'll be jonesing to drive the beetle again😀
Speaking of winter, here are some shots taken during some much nicer weather testing the car for the year ahead. (I'm thinking warm thoughts)

DAY 173

I went for that drive today on the highway to burn some moisture out of the engine. On my way to Suffield I spotted an AMC 4X4 on route 91 a SX4 I think. Then on route 20 a guy in a late 70s or early 80s Cadillac complete with classic plates giving me the thumbs up as he passed. Real nice car, looked like some dignitary should be riding in the back.

DAY 176

Third Monday in a row on the road with it, even though we had our weekly snow storm! Went on the highway to run some arrends. The wind gusts we're horrible. I changed routes and hit the wind head on. I almost couldn't break 50.

DAY 177

Had a little fun at the gas station today. The kid working there came out of the both because he thought I was parked backwards:)

So I guess the weekly snow storm was rescheduled to Tuesday this week. Last night's drive home was like one of them crippling storms down south, where they don't have plows. None of the roads were plowed on my way home. The weird thing was it was so bright out. Here is a picture from 11:30 PM. No flash just low light setting.

!!!! 6 Months!!!!

I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel! Finally after weeks of below average temps we are experiencing above freezing temperatures. I almost forgot what that was like. Sometimes I can just get in the car and start it up and drive without having to warm it up.

240 miles this week most of them today. With a trip 42 miles north of here to Yankee Candle Village, Deerfield MA. We had to make a few unexpected stops on the way back. A- Bomb was running fine then when we got off the highway he wouldn’t idle and stalled. Kind of fixed it after the parking area on 91 but still not quite right. I got a bunch of things to check tomorrow to see what’s going on. And what do I do when it just isn’t running quite right? Go just a little future up the road to Vermont.

DAY 182

It seems the stalling issue was due to a bad set of points. I was checking the timing and noticed the points weren't closing properly.

Went back to our favorite breakfast restaurant the place were I started this adventure 6 months ago.

DAY 185

Warmest day of the year! It hit 60 in some places around the state. How fast it can feel like spring. Last night it was a foggy drive home. The other night was ice road driving, no salt or sand. Just ice.

Week 27
116 miles this week. Started the week with figuring out the stalling problem. It turned out to be a bad set of points. Much better temps finally! I even opened the window once. No special trips jut a little more driving to see if I worked out the stalling issue. I did get the chance to do a real decent desalting of the car. Hopefully that could be the last one….???. Day 186 took a ride to the local UPS store to ship out an engine block for Herbie to RIMCO. Nothing like using an air-cooled car to deliver an air-cooled engine block.

DAY 194

I decided to change the oil a little earlier since it was starting to look a little black. Its short of three months but has a lot of time on it. Oh yeah here is the forecast: Today, 3/20/15: Becoming mostly cloudy with snow developing in the afternoon. High: 32 inland, 33 shore.

Tonight: Spring arrives at 6:45pm! Snow this evening with a total accumulation of 1-5" (lightest amounts in Northern Connecticut and highest amounts in Southern Connecticut. Low: 26

Not exactly the ideal weather for an oil change but I drained it after getting home form work then finished up the job this mourning.

Week 28

62 miles this week. Until we went back to winter I was enjoying the warmer temps and not having to warm it up before going any place. Thanks to that the mileage was coming back, 23 MPG city.

Since you're still driving the car in the cold, I imagine your heater system works well!!

Yeah, the heater boxes work well. after about a mile on the highway it warms up nice but the short commute to and from work is no heat. Usually I'll sit on a heater before I leave work. So it's like having a heated seat but by the time I get home it starts to get cold.

DAY 196

Put on about 100 miles to and from Deep River CT for the annual CVA kickoff party. Day 91 was the last time I was able to go to an event. Funny thing I was parked next to that car last time.
