Not pampered you say???
That is carpeting it is parked on in its little cozy nook of the garage:)
Details to fallow in the future! In other words if this little idea I'm working on works out you will hear all about it. if not, none of this ever happened...... _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

first off I am in no way a painter or auto body technician so any pros reading this be warned.
I had this bright idea of trying my hand at painting this car with Magic's Tractor and implement paint and a Eastwood Turbine Paint Gun System http://www.jegs.com/i/Eastwood/352/14878/10002/-1?...fgodfnQKvQ
I did the two rear fenders since they were only in Rustoleum anyhow and was hoping this paint would look closer to the currant paint on the car. It is a real close match. Really had nothing to lose if it didn't work out. I figured this would be a good test for this paint and paint gun idea. I don't know if it is going to work out but it did look real shinny with a lot of runs.
It seems I put it on too thin epically the passenger side fender to color sanding. I was planning on repainting them again but looks like the wife's car needs a CV axle or wheel bearing so I need this one back on the road. I put it all back together today.

Here is a shot from July 3. Drive In movie trip with the car.
As for driving it I decided I would drive it on nice days this summer and there have been lots of nice days. I also took it on a beach trip a couple weeks back too. That turned out to be probably the hottest day I have ever been out with it. The air on the highway was so hot I had to turn the vent windows back. The air felt like a hot air drier in my face. I don't know how these cars cool off with air like that but we did end up with a little bit of an issue after stopping once we got off the highway. The clutch needs adjusting so it kind of chunked into 1rst when the light turned green and stalled. Then didn't want to start cause of vapor lock. Had to pump it a little to get it to fire up but I was on a hill and only have two feet. Got it going just in time to still make the light. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

25th Annual Connecticut Bug A Fair-August 14 2016 CT
It wasn't hot on the AM drive but on my way back I took the long way home through Avon Simsbury Granby then Suffield. It was about two hours of driving but just some terrific farm lands! The old car ran great and those roads were a little cooler. Just a good day for a drive!
Then this next photo We took a trip to Buell's Orchard 108 Crystal Pond Rd, Eastford, CT to get some fresh apples. I know that area of the state a little bit and figured it wasn't far from Natchaug State Park. I looked at maps to find it was only ten miles away so we went there after for a picnic. kind of an

I went back and read this thread from the very beginning last night. I love what you did with this car (that is, I love that you drove it!). It reminded me of back in high school, when I had my Super running and legal--it generally ran well and was relatively reliable, except for the clutch going out on the very first day that it was legal! Your Bug keeps going and going, and that's what makes these cars so great.
So... keep up the good work (of enjoying the car)! _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

Yeah I have to admit I go back through and read this too;)
The other day I took the front bumper off and all the inspection plates to have a look in the tunnel to see if the clutch cable tube moves around in there. No movement that I can see. I still think the problem is with the boden tube. Maby the cable is sawing at it. Also its been running a little bit off lately. I did need to adjust the points but think I'll change the spark plugs next.Hopefully this isn't a sign of bad things to come. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

It has been two years since I started driving this car as a daily driver for a year and now a year since the end of that adventure. Boy does time fly. Where did it go? Anyhow I’m trying something new in the ignition system with it. No not points conversion . that’s way to modern for me Ha! But I am going to be running some NGK spark plugs I figured I would opt for Japan versus India ( The latest Bosch plugs for Herbie). The Bosch plugs I just took out were German and they actually were in Herbie for a while then ended up in this engine when I first started to get it going. Very good plugs. I also went with a set of 10 dollar spark plug wires from Mexico That I got with the plugs from my last Rockauto order. I don’t know if they will work out. The air gap plug looks like the kind that will cook on the intake but the plug wires I had in there from Auto Zone, USA made the insulation was very week and ripped when I put them into the wire holders on the fan shroud. 20 bucks for them and they work fine other than that. I may take the air gap plugs from them to make a good set. We will see.
Also recently I realized that through my horrible writing skills I totally didn’t convey how I could deal with this noisy underpowered, car with the anemic heating system for a year. Part of that is because here on the samba I’m kind of writing to a biased crowd of other lovers of these quirky little machines. Let me point out the finer features of this project 66 daily driver: GA$$ mileage, lack of blind spots. Today’s cars have gigantic roof pillars for flip over protection! Sooo easy to perform routine maintenance and repairs. No computer needed. Where would I even plug it in? It didn’t even have a cigarette lighter plug till I added it. Less is more! It’s almost like they got together to build these and said” let’s see if we can make a car with as few parts as possible” Availability and price of parts. Then there is the gratification of driving a car that I pretty much assembled myself. Maybe that is why I put up for some of the disadvantages… _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

This paragraph sums up much of why I love these little cars! I also enjoy driving (or, in my case for the past few years, discussing) a classic Volkswagen because it's just something completely different when compared to so many of the cars on the road today. The quirkiness--including the shortcomings--are to me part of the charm of driving a car which generally receives little reaction from so many car enthusiasts while eliciting a powerful response from much of the rest of the motoring public.
Plus, it attracts the women--at least the ones who aren't put off by the rust and junkyard status of my car. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

I finally got around to fixing the rust on the bottom of the pasenger side a pillar. I still had a piece from the repair I did on Herbie. I also took the windows out and it was a good thing too. Because there was a lot of rust in the windshield frame. I've been welding that back together for days now. The P.O. sandblasted but just basically bondoed it. Nice):

I don't think I saw this car at the bug affair, but I did see the Herbie at Cruisn on Main last August. Great looking car! I like seeing Herbies, some hate 'em, I love 'em. No to many VWs there this year, normally Langan brings his stuff. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Oooo a local! tks for posting. Yeah that Cruising Maine Street was a terrific show! IDK if u saw the little peddle car next to Herbie but one of the volunteers at that event gave us that a few years back. I'm hoping she was there again this year and got to see it.
Anyhow hopefully we could meet up at one of the next events. I'm hoping to got the Johns air cooled event in November in VT. weather permitting and we (Connecticut Volkswagen association) try to get together in Westbrook CT in December for one last event also weather permitting. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

I saw the pedal car and loved it! I was actually at Johns on Saturday, but they were closed when I got there. I still looked at the cars though, it's great. I didn't know he had an event either...maybe I'll go. The CTVWA thing in Westbrook is a show right? I'm not a member. _________________ '67 Beetle L41
