Good news...the project is alive again....although with some changes.
The 1.9 is being sidelined...and going with a 2.1 case. Spoke with Rocky Jennings and there seems to be a few advantages of the 2.1 over the 1.9. So the plan is to use thick wall 92 cyls with JE pistons, have the crank ground to a 80mm stroke, a turbo from Shag and some E85 injection. Got my set of 5.5 CB H beams today.... Cant wait to start pulling this all together.

IT was great to get a visual update from Rocky today. Here is a pic of the waterjacket milled off, head stud pattern drilled and plugged and now ready to have the type 1 pattern drilled.

Another minor change....I ordered a set of the 94mm squishy pistons from Aircooled.net.... so that will make the engine a 2221.
Hope the cam and turbo will be delivered today. _________________ 58 Beetle (now just a pile of parts in the corner)

Got the rest of my parts back. Looks good. Need to collect a few more parts and it will be time for assembly. The engine case work was done by Rocky Jennings and the crank was done by DPR.

Looks great!
I really like the modified oil pick-up that Rocky provides. Had I known about that, I'd probably never have dry-sumped my engine! _________________

Why not just make a custom set of wires with a Y splice in them. Then you could just run one distributor. |

Maybe a stupid question, but what is the advantage of using a WBX case for an air-cooled engine over the aftermarket aluminum cases that don't require all the mods? _________________ A man with any character at all must have enemies and places he is not welcome—in the end we are not only defined by our friends, but those aligned against us. |

My understanding is its stronger, has a wider case deck, improved thrust brg config, better flywheel attachment, larger oil sump and has built in provision for a filter. _________________ 58 Beetle (now just a pile of parts in the corner)

Thanks... Yes I thought he did a pretty great job on the pick up. fairly simple and should be very effective. _________________ 58 Beetle (now just a pile of parts in the corner)

Because it's the T1 case the factory SHOULD have built to start off with, for all the reasons stated above. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747
