|
|
Has anyone used these grease injector needles that fit the tip of the grease guns? I was recommended to inject my cv boots that way as a sort of first line of defense, before actually tearing down to get the boots off etc. And if so, would it be necessary to make a few injections in each boot? Or will movement make the grease make it go where it needs to go?
Something like this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9S...-_-NA-_-NA
What do you think? Thanks. |

First how would you get it behind the boot without tearing it or making a hole? Assuming you could perhaps slip it in under the boot at the axle side, I can't think you would get enough grease from that in the right places to make much difference. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

Yeah, kind of what I thought. The dude at NAPA told me just to poke it in and fill the sucker up with grease. Hmmm?? |

It's a messy enough job to clean and repack without outside help from the local flaps _________________ Rick

Those needles are great for packing wheel bearings. It is a lot cleaner than hand packing or using a packing "cone". I use high-temp bearing grease and get every little nook and cranny filled. Zero problems. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

Firstly do not use chassis grease in a CV joint. Use a grease that is specific to CV's.
And....unless the boot is leaking grease either at the small end or at the flange end of the boot, you don't want to add more grease. (assuming whoever assembled the boot and CV used the proper quantity of grease in the first place). A torn boot needs a new one of course.....with the attendant package of grease and will have the proper quantity of grease to use.
If there is no indication of leaking grease you are prob. ok. Just leave alone. |
