There may be a group camping at Lake Cachuma, Friday and Saturday night, trying to get more information. We are planning on Saturday night, depending on campsite availability and the weather. |

Actually, Gaviota isn't sold out. The X's on reserveamerica mean that the sites are first come-no reservations-during the off season. There probably would be space; the park isn't the most popular because of the extreme wind.
In any case, I'm interested in camping, so if somebody sets something up, let me know.
On a slightly related note, if anybody is interested in camping at Carpinteria for Easter-Fri & Sat nights, I ended up with more than one space. _________________ 1977 Westy - "Olive" |

Are you guys camping in the RV section of the campsite section? The RV section has some nice grass, H20 and Elec. The campsite area was all dirt and dry weeds when we were there last year. |

Man I so want to go to this! I'm just a little concerned about the long drive since I just bought my 69 bus a couple of weeks ago. My mechanic checked her out and AAA is paid up but it doesn't even have seatbelts in the rear yet. My 66 bug would make it, but the family wants a place to kick it. So, in 6 days I have to 1) buy seatbelts, 2) get to Ventura by 9:00am so I can follow everyone, 3) bring a trophy/prize, 4) have AAA on speed dial. _________________ '66 White, Black Plate, Stock Type I

There will be a few of us from West Coast Bays leaving Saturday morning at 7:30am from Orange County. We plan on camping out at Refugio State Beach Saturday night, then heading to the show Sunday morning. Like most of the campsites this time of year, there are no reservations allowed, yet only walk-ups are taken. Refugio allows 3 vehicles per site, so we're hoping we can score a few.
Anyone looking for a place to camp out Saturday night, or want to cruise out with us Saturday morning, feel free to drop me an email
[email protected]
We will be meeting at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in the Block of Orange at 7:30am this Saturday morning.

Your going to want to call Refugio before you head up there. I was just there on Tuesday and apparently "walk up only" means closed for maintenance. I ended up at El Capitan which was nice but 2/3rds of that park is closed for maintenance also. _________________ '70 Bus

I've been trying to call them for days, but just get a recording with old information from March 4th.
Just saw this on their website
"Refugio State Beach will be closed intermittently for camping and day use March 18th - 21st and 25th-29th due to paving improvements."
Looks like we should be OK for tomorrow. _________________ Andy Kimball

Refugio is nice because you're close to the beach. El Capitan is a good fallback position campsites are a little more private...and then the last chance on the coast is Gaviota.
see you guys on Sunday. _________________ Brian O'Kelly

The campout at Lake Cachuma was great, perfect weather, nice campground, and great company. MITM was super with lots of cars and VW fan-atics. Best weather yet.

We had a great turnout, about 200 cars from all over Southern CA and beyond. Weather was perfect, the park looked great, and everyone who attended made it a near perfect VW get together. Oh, and we also had a great tool and cash raffle!
