Yet another horn grounding question!!! I have a 1974 vert. I have reattached the ground wire under the car that jumps the steering coupler. Is there a wire that runs up the middle of the steering shaft? I know this was the case in older models, but not sure in mine. If not, what wire is attached to the male spade connector when you remove the steering wheel cover/pad. I replaced both horns and the relay. Horn works when I detach the ground from the relay and jump the relay connector(85 I think) directly to a good ground. Problem is clearly in the ground circuit from the steering wheel side. Help!! |

At first I thought the same thing but then I thought I read that in 1972, when the ghia went to the larger super beetle style steering wheel, that the steering column itself was grounded to the chassis and didnt need the wire up through the column. Would love to hear from a '72-'74 ghia owner on what this arrangement should be. I have the jumper wire over the steering coupler but no wire going up the shaft. |

I believe I have a wire up the shaft. I'll look tomorrow and probably just make a video. _________________ You Tube Channel w/vids of the car's progress

Thanks. The vids are my recreation time. I enjoy doing them and watching other guy's projects as well.
Check this at the 4:00 mark. I had a hard time putting it into words, but I think I got it all out.

Hi Greg, Great video..Thanks!!! As Im sure you have had happen, my brain was working overtime in my sleep last night and I woke up with the probable answer. Basically everything you said/showed in the video is exactly what I came up with. I had tested enough of the circuit to know the problem HAD to be in the steering wheel end. Sure enough the copper contacts on the turn signal ring were not making proper contact with the ring on the steering wheel. Installation problem by PO. By the time I got to your video I was already honking at will!!! Thanks so much for taking the time for that...great fun and affirmation to see a fellow ghia owner come up with the same understanding.........Jon |

NP man. I knew I had been through it all before. Never hurts to revisit the scene of the crime. _________________ You Tube Channel w/vids of the car's progress
