Yes trans will have to come apart to fix. Mainshaft is 2 piece with a 7mm stud and collar slid over 2 piece held on with a snapring. Some how it has came apart.
If you have other problems internal now is the time to get everything fixed.
Trying to use it the way it is could cause major damage. _________________ Joseph

Parts you are mainly interested in are 1, 2 , 3, 12 and 13 ...
1 and 2 are held together by 3 (threaded stud) and locked by reverse drive gear (12) and drive gear is locked into place by snap ring 13....
You can drop off passenger side axle and side plate to access these parts with out a full transaxle take down....
