Clutch went out yesterday on the way home from work. This is what I found:
This is an aftermarket POS that came with the car. Question is: Am I supposed to have a short or long snout for a 57'? _________________ 1957 Oval Rag |

The difference in the pedal cluster design follows the location of the clutch cable tube inside the chassis. If you truly have a 57 chassis and it hasn't been modified, then you need a long snout pedal cluster. But the fact that you just pulled out a POS short snout pedal cluster means your car could have a different chassis, a modified chassis, etc. so you need to look inside and see what you have in there. |

If it is an pre aug 57 chassis it will have 2 threaded holes in the pan to the left of the pedal assembly for the oval only clutch and brake stops (Aug 57 went to 1) and if you reach into the tunnel through the hole the clutch tube will be on the right side.
Also the Rear (upper) shock towers on my 55 and both 57's the shock bolt holes are 90 degree to the centerline of the pan, not sure when they were changed to "45 degree" 58 mabye?
The broken clutch arm is very common and is the reason why I only use German pedals, and weld these up with steel plate on my restorations.
the hook on that assembly is 64 1/2 to 71 also...
