The body shop says that my car should be ready this friday.. so in the meantime i have been putting together all the components together so when the car is at Marshall Painter's shop for the final build.

Just have to paint the small panels like the following dash pieces where the gauges will go... not an easy task to cut the grilles but i recommend anyone who is doing this to use a Dremel rotary tool and some small cutting discs.

Trimming the LH grille to accept the VDO 3 3/8" Tach

Here is lining things up and some more trimming to do

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Here is the finished product.. now to take the tach off and prep the grille for paint. I recommend putting a piece of hard plastic like the ones werksberg sells to seal the back properly and limit gas fumes.

This is what it will look like with the chrome moulding pieces in it..

The fenders were painted today... some imperfections like dirt and a single hair strand... i guess it will come out in the buffing.

Got the hood today all wet sanded and buffed. A small fly or mosquito flew onto the hood when it was being sprayed and Angel grabbed it but only the insects body came up and the legs stayed on the paint.

I was almost out of SPIES HECKER paint and a quart would have cost me about $140.00

Like the movie The Mohicans " Let it lie"
So the legs of the mosquito are still there.. oh well.. it buffed out pretty well.. just a little mark of the legs.

I just painted the underside of the fenders with Rustoleum Bedliner because Undercoating does not solidify thus attracts dirt and if gas gets on it then it will be all over and even on your paint job.

I got my wheels in and they were a great deal
These are 17" x 7" Rader Style wheels from CIP1 @ $209.00 each and the shipping was superfast in less than 5 days for only $87.00 total shipping.

These are the Junction Produce valve stems.. these are black and chrome but i ordered blue and chrome via ebay from China so they should be here anytime now

I bought brand new tires for $240.00 mounted and balanced

I bought the 5th wheel spare in 15" x 5" with a Nankang 135SR15 tire so it would fit under the hood.

I did a mock up of the front wheels to see the fit because the gas tank is off the bug and doors so there is no weight up front
This is what the same wheel looked like on a 66 Narrowed 3" beam Adjustable

it's coming along...
today i installed the front hood and had an issue with the hood seal... where are they making this stuff ?
China ?
Well my shoes are made in China too !!

Anyway .. i made the mistake of putting on the hood before putting on the seal... i didn't have a friend that could help me out so i had to get my brother to come over and give me a hand and this was the only time that he had available.. a mere 10 minutes so i had to get what i could get... so on went the hood and the seal later.. since i could not get it the corner with the rubber nipples to go thru i ended up just bolting them on.. check it out !!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also used Werksberg's Mexican rubber seals... i love these.. they are great.. now just have to mod the latch with some shims and longer bolts.. i may just remove the Chinese hood seal all together... too much rubber.

The following are some selfies.. i opened up the holes from the '67 to '65 bug ones.. in other words stepped them up to accept the wider stainless steel moulding from Wolfsburg West.

Glad you found Marshall! Definitely one of the best out there in this area where some people are so quick to rip ya off. Your bug looks awesome and the color is beautiful, good to see you are finishing it and not selling it!
