I'm confused. You buy a '67 and want to turn it into a '65, but then add the '66 one-year-only "1300" deck lid emblem even though you aren't running a 1300cc engine? Confused

I do love the color! Cool

My '67 came with '65 front fenders, '60 headlights, '66 rear decklid

My motor now is a 1641 with mild cam and dual carbs

Ive done quite a number of mods to it...

Here is one of them

Wiper Motor Mod:

I was perplexed trying to figure out why have two separate switches one for the motor wiper blades and one for the electric washer pump.

This is where the washer bottle will go:
I custom made this bracket

Where did you get the washer switch? I'm building a 65 Beetle that I've installed a 67 2 speed wiper motor and switch and I'm thinking about hooking up an electric washer pump that I've got in my tool box.

I got it from Radio Shack $2.49 I think it is what i paid for it.. now it has to be Open position so when you press the button on the wiper motor knob it joins the current.
The exact part number: 275-1547

nice build thread.

I'm in the throws of my own build and I was curious about your wheel choice. With the 2.5" narrowed beam with drop spindles, drums and 17x7 wheels how do you feel about the clearance of the tires/fenders?

I'm contemplating a 17x7 wheel but I expect to have drop spindles and disc brakes...so maybe a little more offset. How much wider do you think your setup could be before you'd have problems? Ultimately I'm debating between 2 and 4 inches narrower.

with the earlier front fenders like what i have the wheels just fit well underneath and plenty of clearance. Doesnt even touch the buckets.
The only issue that i am having is that i didnt shorten the tie rod bars so one wheel turns up to 20 degrees and the other side about 10 degrees. This can be fixed though.

I suggest to call CIP1 and speak to Kris the owner who was able to give me the best tip. I wouldn't go with disc brakes unless you are building a high powerful motor that would require better stopping power but if you are not then no need for disc brakes.
If you do go with disc brakes then a narrower beam would be advisable.
The Radar wheels that CIP1 sells i feel are better quality than EMPI and a lot cheaper too.. i paid $209.00 each for mine.. tell him that you have the Hotvws magazine special..

Thanks for the info. Mine is a '65, so earlier style fenders for me as well. I haven't settled on an engine as of yet but I am building the pan to accommodate from stock to stroker as I expect to probably get it on the road with a 1600dp in the near term and build something more fun next winter.

Ultimately it sounds like the 4" beam shouldn't be dismissed just yet.

I'd be far more concerned about that wire cutting your oil hose from engine vibration than I would be them burning up from header heat.

The safety wire was just a temporary thing until I can fabricate a custom shield that would envelope both lines with an eyebolt... I am still working on it and the bug is not being driven.

I have not seen any other pics of these types of installs

This is what i found so far just by doing a search...

I would loose the clear blue cap. While it might fit you're color scheme, they tend to arc and hurt performance. Get a Bosch cap and paint it to match the engine paint.

after 14 months of having to deal with some ripoff body shops i finally get the bug back to put it together..

I started to buy parts for the bug back in Sept 2012 and just now have gotten around to opening the packages and as i open the package that has the outside window scrapers i find them bent... I bought these from Gary Claxton from Bug-Eyed.net in Georgia.

It was hard to believe but after a year of having them i just now got around to opening the makeshift box they made out of cardboard which was not rigid like the boxes Wolfsburg west sends their merchanside out in.

I called up Gary Claxton and told me my situation and he wasn't buying what i was conveying to him because it has been over a year.. i told him to look up my trials and tribulations with my build and google David Hernandez of Oldie Goldie Restorations so he will have an idea of what i have gone through.

So now i have to buy a new set...
I will from Wolfsburg West.
