That was kinda the plan going into it. But I am now considering just stripping it down and putting it in the shop. Once I render it undriveable I will be past the point of no return. As it is, I've been teetering back and forth between hoodride and full restoration, depending on my mood... _________________ 1970 Sundial Camper

Mike, what do you call "good spray can primer"? I'm only asking, as most primers absorb water and moisture, and I've had problems with epoxy "lifting" and "crazing" due to spray can primer being underneath the epoxy. This is mostly because the reducers in the epoxy are reacting with the spray can stuff. I prefer to just use the epoxy, and cal it good (for sealing). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I'd leave it like it is, and drive it until you find the parts you're going to need to fix it. Then put it down for the work. It might be a month or more before you find the parts, or even have them for a shop. That's a month you could be enjoying it. For the cowl piece, you could always use aluminum duct tape to keep any water out. It won't hurt anything, since that section will need to be replaced. I've been doing that for several years, on my 65 Notch. But, this spring it's getting it's turn for work. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I buy everything at my local Automotive Paint store and follow their system. They do have or will load compatible spray can primers/sealers. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

X2
Being that you're in SoCal, parts should be relatively easy to find but that can sometimes take longer than you think. Driving it is a nice perk while you're sourcing parts. It can be easy to get discouraged if you take the car apart and then can't find the part you need to get you into the next phase.
Drive it and enjoy it while it's in one piece, then when you've collected the parts, you can strip it down and do all of the body work at once and put it back together. |

Joel aka Boo_Koo_Z up in Washington has a couple listed in the classifieds right now. They've still got the dash attached, but you could always have him cut that part out, to save some weight on shipping. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Pretty nice parts haul this weekend. Picked up hood, deck lid, drivers door (need to trade for passenger door) and two straight rear fenders. The fenders were stripped to bare metal and left outside for a while, so there is some pretty good surface rust on the outside, but I got a really great price for the pair. So I'm close...

Damn, I thought you were just busy. I was hoping you'd call Saturday when I was traveling the earth scrounging for parts! I'll give you a call tomorrow. _________________ 1970 Sundial Camper

I looked at the pieces Boo_Koo_Z has, and it appears that the vents are flush with the sheet metal of the cowl. Mine are sunken in. What year did that change? _________________ 1970 Sundial Camper

I was told the door came off a '64 notch and I did notice that the hinges looked kinda strange to me. _________________ 1970 Sundial Camper

If it's off of a 64 you should be fine. 66 was the last year of the 3 bolt hinge for the Variant/Squareback but they continued for the Notchback.

All notchback door hinges are the same. Early (pre '66) squarebacks share those same hinges. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.
