I use white lithium grease on stock builds and Torco cam lube in hi-po builds.
For the case I use Permatex Aviation.
Around the cylinders I use Permatex Ultra Copper.
For the flywheel seal I use white lithium. _________________ Glenn

For me:
What ever oil you use (for me 20/50 bradpenn) 50/50 mix with lucas oil on all bearings flywheel seal ect..
Cam lobes and lifter faces: lots and lots of moly grease
Lifter bodys: little bit of moly and 50/50 mix on top of it
As for cylinders head/case nuts/washers... either grey black or copper works fine... all does the same shit. But only copper silicone on exhaust flanges. No more gaskets for me.
Case halfs yamabond
Oil pump grey black or copper on case side, and curil on cover side. With moly grease between pump gears. And sealing nuts (RED SIDE DOWN!!!) _________________ Gotta give my props to:

Remember that when dealing with engines, the torque specs assume you lube the fastener with engine oil unless it says otherwise. If you use ARP's lube, you should drop the values maybe 10% since it has less friction. If you use regular oil on a rod bolt instead of arp lube, you will have to increase the torque by 10% or more.
Best thing to do is follow the darn instructions
valve guides/pushrods/rockers/lash adjusters and other stuff that needs EP lube, please use GEAR OIL instead of engine oil or grease. |

LUBES
Valves - white lithium assembly lube
Springs 5w30 before firing engine
Rockers - straight white lithium assembly lube
Pistons - WD-40 (mixed with 5w30 if engine won't be fired for a couple weeks
Crank, rods and piston pins, endplay shims - white lithium lube mixed with 5w30
Rear main - white lithium assembly lube
Lifters - white lithium lube/oil on body, moly lube supplied by cam grinder on head.
Cam - lithium assembly lube/oil on bearings, supplied moly on lobes
Oil pump - pack lightly with straight lithium assembly lube just enough so the gears have a good coating to seal them
Sealants
Barrels/shims, Generator stand, fuel pump block, case washers, deep sump to case - Permatex Right Stuff
Head studs that are open to the inside of the case - Permayex thread sealant
Full flow fittings - Permatex thread sealant

I use Lucas for assembly lube. Sticky, stays in place, and never had an issue. _________________ Eric Allred

Permatex red liquid assembly lube for bearings and CRC Moly-Graphite engine assembly grease on everything else.
NEVER EVER use white lithium in an engine build; on an engine with a element style filter. It WILL fill the pours in the element, and not break down under pressure or heat to a passable soluble. White Lith is for door hinges _________________ In life there is but one way out |

Worst assembly lube on the planet, well maybu good for oil filled wheel baerings.
Heres the deal guys, the bottom line is the engine will live its life on what????????????? OIL! Plain and simple.
Use what to use a high quality oil that has a little more viscosity than what you will be normally running. So a 20-50 is good for assembly.
I have my preferences, it happens to be Amsoils 15-50 Dominator race oil for assemly, or GM's EOS, both really good stuff. Bearings, valves, rockers, everything except for the rings which I only use the Ackerly & Childs Xtreme ring oil on.
The reason is you want the assembly lube to flow out, and blend in with the engine oil your running almost immediately to keep the bearing cool and lubricated. If it does not do that the engine will lock up, and or score the bearings on start up.
Fire it, build pressure and be gone, that is a good assembly lube. The grease as stated above or with lithium grease, hell any grease does not flow out well, nor does it give the hydrodynamic barrier that oil will.
Now cams, that's a little different, but not much. You need a little EP protection for the first couple revolutions, but that too needs to be gone (well it will be gone) almost immediately on start up. So it's all about the oil and quality of the oil your using.
Besides I hate building an engine that feels "tight" because it has some sticky grease crap stuck in the bearings. You can't get a good feel for it, I like the bottom end to float as it turns, if it doesn't it aint right.
So again, high quality motor oils with a good ZDDP add pack are your best choices for engine assembly. I have seen first hand the unnecessary wear that grease will put on the rotating assembly, vs high quality motor oil time and again. It's not worth it.
And of course you always prime the darn engine before firing it right! |

The moly grease only belongs on lifters/cam and in oilpump for priming reasons. I use a mix of bradpenn and lucas because I too believe in high quality oil for assembly lube and lucas gives it a little extra stick so nothing runs or drips too easy, and stays put when sitting on the shelf or what not. _________________ Gotta give my props to:

I use brad penn assembly lube and have.been happy as a peach with its consistency , stickiness and quality. Aviation permatex on the case sealing edges and grey ultra on the cylinders. I put aviation on tube seals too. I mix bradd penn and whatever cam assembly lube on the lifter faces. I use castrol gtx and zddp additive in my oil. _________________ 2276 IDA's 86C 11-1 DD !
