Nelson thank heaven they did not call them a Hillman Manx or we might have been owning Meyers Minxes.
That must have been fun and interesting driving around Cairo with your buddy back then.
Also I will check with Les and see if I can get some pics and info on the interior of his dad's Manx.
Nelson I will for sure let Les know also. Thank you for all you do to keep dune buggy history alive.
Frizzardking that is such a neat original and historical Manx. _________________ "The simplest of outdoor adventures - the most treasured memories." - Bruce Meyers

This was my mom's first car that she drove every day to high school and part way through college (bought for an affordable $750 and it was economical). These days, I go to the same high school as she did and every year, she drives the mascots in the homecoming parade. It's a '68 and was built up in '70. Wood steering wheel and dash, white low-backs, original Buggy Whip dune flag, ford teardrop taillights, vintage Empi gauges, and bazooka tailpipes (what else?).

Some more buggy pictures from back in the day late 60's early 70's. From my friend Les and his family's collection.
From the left is a Glitter Bug with the yellow and blue buggies being early pre-tag "sticker" Manx buggies.
A buggy club run to our local National Forest.
Lester with his Manx at the Pismo Dunes.
Just having fun.
Lester and his Manx after having installed a Volvo engine in place of the VW.

Manx102- awesome pics! Thanks for sharing!! That yellow Manx seems to have the foil sticker emblem...cool. Volvo engine in a dune buggy seems interesting, wonder where he put the radiator?? |

You are welcome Roscoe and it is neat to see a "sticker" on a Manx in that good of shape, ours wore-off pretty fast. As for the radiator in this picture from Les of his fathers Volvo powered Manx, you can see it off the back-end.

This is the Manx I bought in 1975. I missed a chance to buy a new one and build it 5 years earlier when I was a penniless kid. This one showed up right next door and I snapped it up.
Cleaned up and waiting for the engine. I drove this buggy as my main transportation all summer.
This is a Safari I bought in 1979. I bought it to build into an autocross car after seeing Bill Goodale's incredible Porsche powered Deserter GS in 1979. I ran the buggy in SCCA autocross for 7 years.
The Deserter Series 1 I am slowly building now will be a vintage style build as well.

Very cool pics indeed! Thanks for up loading them. I love these old photos showing them in use in the time period they were originally intended. Cool color on that Manx, is it moss green or something else? |

If I were smarter I'd re-post the last few pictures in the "let's see your best dunebuggy picture" sticky that Mal Evolent posted on the most recent post. |

I realize this thread is a little old, but does anyone have more detailed info on these seats? I have come across a pair identical to these, but I have no idea what car they came from.

Notice that that buggy has VW seats on cut down bases. They were almost as common as the vinyl and foam upholstered fiberglass buckets. British sports car seats were pretty common too, like in this Manxvair survivor.

Hi, I have a very similar looking repo seat in my buggy it is a Procar SC80-1400-51L (left) or SC80-1400-52R (right) a really neat fit, the seats slide back and forward easily and the upright part of the seat will also move fully forward or full back like you would have to get in the back of a 2 door car with a rear seat.

1975 or 76? If it wasn't for the street tires, it would have made it to the top. This was a local sand pit that looked unattended and appeared climb worthy.

1968. My first buggy. Sears on a 55 pan with a split case and a 36 horse. Replaced that with a 164" Corvair so I could learn more about transaxle repair. |

69-70? My Towd. First picture is my wife and friend at the ramp at Oceano, absent the hood. The previous day she stood it on its nose and broke it.
Second pic was very early on the way to the Rubicon, VERY cold. Note repaired hood.

next pic is me being young and foolish
final is me on the dunes at Marina Beach (Ft Ord)
