This is the '63 baja that my dad and i have restored. The reason i say "the" is because it belongs to my dad UNTIL i graduate (earn it), which will be in about a month actually. Graduating early, From high school that is Very Happy This is my daily driver & will see some occasional offroading. I have been driving it since August of 2012 i believe which is when i got my license. We bought it from someone locally without an engine for $750 and not too long after, purchased a turnkey 1600cc. This will be my first car and proud to say its a VW!!

This is her today, after much work since we bought it. I recently painted her a rust color primer because the paint wasn't THE BEST, especially after my little engine fire a few months ago

Thanks man it's actually a rust color just from a rattle can. The dash is more of a ruby red. When I go to college I will able to paint it for free in auto! Thinking about a dark charcoal grey

What kind of seats are those? I just found a set that looks like those for $130. They lean forward to get into the back?

Im not 100% sure but I believe they are called scorpion racing seats. I got them for 120 but kinda wish I bought them new because they didn't come with rails and they have a few rips. Yes they move forward and fully adjustable. There are also 2 levers on each seat (one on each side) so that they can be used as either the left or right seat. They actually move so much that they hit my windshield so there is quite a bit of clearance. They fit well but they do have high backs (useful for those annoying backseat drivers) Laughing and they are VERY comfortable. any questions feel free to ask Very Happy

Very nice job on this build I was gonna get a baja and decided to get a fiberglass buggy instead. Still wondering if I made a mistake especially after seeing how sweet this thing is!!

So a little while ago i had an engine fire just putting down the road. i grabbed my extinguisher but the damn thing didn't spray more than half a second Shocked after poring water on the engine and trying my best to put it out with a towel, i was lucky enough for someone from a nearby store to come out with an extinguisher and put the bitch out. then the fire dept. sprayed whatever it was they sprayed and it all got into my left carb which i still have to clean out. after it got towed home i inspected it and seems it started from the distributor. my dad and i believe someone was messing with some wires. but i was too dumb to pull over and inspect it after i kept smelling gas Confused this was my first bad encounter with my car. i have no idea what i did with the pics i took after, ill keep looking. so after replacing wires and wires, a distributor, a coil and some other minor parts, we got it running and I've been driving it since. so here it is all rusty now, will be painting the shroud and exhaust soon.

alright guys, i graduated high school on friday! buuut, my dad said the baja wont be mine until i walk which is in june Sad oh well, that will give me time to put a few things in this beast. sub coming soon, along with an amp my cousin is giving me today. btw i put in a new alternator on thursday because i was stuck after school from a low battery. everytime i hit the brakes or turned on the lights the radio would turn off, no more of that. also just threw in a new coil.
anyone have a 10" sub in their bug? i would like to know how it performs in a small car like that before i buy it

For a few weeks i threw in a 5" autometer tach which i got from a friend with no charge! i fabbed up a mount that i got from a bed frame which came from under the dash and stuck out in front of my face pretty much. i made it so that i can rotate the tach to my liking any time. it was kinda in the way of the radio and sometimes i would hit it when i grabbed the steering wheel. and even though i don't use my cd player, it was in the way of any cd's i would want to throw in there. not to mention the mount could've impaled the passenger at times.. that all had to change
couple of pics of how i had it (not hooked up at that time)

so my dad thought of just putting it into the dash. i made a forum on here and these people said i wouldn't be able to just put a 5" tach in the dash without modifying it somehow.
i cut out some thin metal in the shape of the left grill, cut a hole, welded tabs and bent the ends

luckily we found the perfect paint at pep boys that matched the dash which was once the color of the rest of the car.
and here's the finished product! for all you doubters on here that said i couldnt do it Laughing Laughing Laughing

def a better alternative to having a big ass dangerous gauge that's in the way. haven't seen anything like this and I'm pretty happy with it.

I would agree but I got it for free so why not right. And it's the same size as the speedo so it looks good and as for other gauges, I don't really need em since it's just a reliable 1600 but in the future when I have the money for some, I'd like to fab up a nice looking plate and put em under the dash along with some switches, after all it is a baja
I would also like to make something I can hold things in. Like maybe that flip up ammo box idea or a basket type thing under the dash I can throw my iPod in. Right now I hold my iPod in the right defroster haha keeps the cord out of the way when I'm bumpin my cheapo speakers
