So now the car is pulsating. 950 RPM down to 500 RPM and back again.

Fouled plug? Vacuum line off or loose?

Lines are all good. I will check the plugs and report back.

From left to right, 1-2-3-4.

I swapped in some NOS W8A German plugs.

After the swap the idle was still surging. 950RPM to 500RPM, repeat.

Chaosisme came out and sprayed for intake leaks but we couldn't find any. He pulled off the #2 spark plug wire to see if the idle would drop and it did. When pushing the cable back on the idle jumped back up to 950. I turned the car off.

About 30 minutes later, I started the car up and the idle is now around 700ish. I pushed on the spark plug wires again and nothing changed. I pushed on the #3 wire at the spark plug and the idle jumped up to 950 again. I turned the car off.

The car is now at 700ish regardless of how much I fiddle with the cables.

No idea what's going on. The cap and rotor might be pretty worn out; they're both German and they seem pretty old. I can see some marks on the contact areas in the cap.

Russ used to always harp on us to do a full tune up (including a valve adjustment) before touching the FI. Might be worth going thru the entire ignition system.

He's not the only one that harped on that... that's how we were trained with D-jet...

Just did a valve adjustment a little over a week ago. Then timing, and idle adjust in that order.

I will keep fiddling.

Any chance the trigger point plug got plugged back in backwards? Pull the boot back on that plug and check the wires.

Also- look at the last entry on p. 1-2 here and make sure this is not happening:

Thought I'd update this for the next person.

I've been fiddling with the car here and there when I have time. I ended up replacing all of the vacuum lines which were old and cracked around the ends and cleaning the three grounds on the case as they were full of oil and dirt. The car seems to be idling much better now. I still need to replace a couple fuel lines on the injectors and see if I can replace the connectors on the injectors. They seem a little loose.

All in all, it's awesome.
