After owning this May of 1959 DC for about 15 years, the resto was "ON"! I finally had it painted Friday afternoon and it looks "freakin" awesome! I'm happy to share a few of many photos shot yesterday...

I'm deleriously happy Very Happy , it already has a mirror-finish and it hasn't even been wet-sanded and rubbed out yet! Awesome body and paint guy! Now for a year or so of slow and meticulous re-assembly!

Very nice.*EDIT* Looking at the pictures again you are correct, your painter is AWESOME. A lot of nook and cranies on a D Cab and all of them look to be nicely covered with paint.

What type of paint did you use? Did they use a color code, or paint match something? That looks really really nice, let the fun begin!

My body and paint guy is Jeff Burke, here in the St. Louis, MO area. He prefers to work within the Dupont product line, and used a single-stage polyurethane paint. He used a etching primer, two different types of high-build primers, and then a final coat of 2K primer (all block sanded down in 80, 180, and 400 grit). After the rest of the removed parts are painted on Monday, he'll eventually wet-sand and rub out the outer finish. I provided both a NOS 1957 center brake light deck lid as well as an NOS 1959 hooded deck-lid to be painted. I also supplied both a stock overhead air vent door as well as an Ambulance fan cover to get the Dove Blue treatment.

I have most everything here already waiting for the re-assembly process including the second and third grey upholstered bench seat kits that Matt Miller ever produced (the first one is in my 1959 Double-Door Panel). Hell, I should open up a Matt Miller upholstery museum! A new wiring harness, NOS trip speedo, vintage AM/FM radio, every piece of rubber, new Nexen 195R15" 8 ply radials, etc., etc. The later model trans and 1641 motor are being removed and a new split-case trans is being built for this, and a VW factory rebuilt "crate" 36hp longblock engine will push it nicely but slowly down the road. About the only thing I'm still looking around for is one "correct" logo'ed vent wing glass.

I can't wait to head to the shop and see it again on Monday!

Bill

Looks great Bill. Are you looking for perfect og sigla glass? I might have a not so perfect piece if you like, but that may not do for this truck.

CORRECTION to the above: Man! The paint fumes must be getting to me! The glass I really need is not so much a vent window, but one pop-out window glass! I have one correct and one later (incorrect logo) pop-out glass. Although if someone does have vent glass, one of mine has a few scratches that can not be buffed out, so I could use one vent window too. I can run the scratched one if necessary, but...

Thank you guys for the glass offers, but if anyone out there has lots of Sekurit "pop-out" or "vent" window glass lying about, please check out my ads for the WTB ad for a decent piece with a particular Sekurit logo. There is a photo in the ad of the exact logo I need to match all of the other glass for this old (but now pretty) Double-Cab. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

This is the exact logo I need on a pop-out glass and on a vent window glass...

I'll try to add some more photos tomorrow afternoon of the other DC parts being painted...

I was wondering about that when you guys get so close to a fresh squirt. Some of those one-part paints off-gas for weeks not to mention the possibility of imprinting the soft coating.

Such a pretty job on my screen!
