K, just got my headliner done in the 61. The rear seat was just sitting in there since I bought the car. How does the back rest portion bolt on? Looks like just 2 holes on each side of the car unthreaded. Is it supposed to be threaded or a bolt nut stack up, and if so what size? Thank you

It takes a special bolt. One on each side at the bottom of the door panel. Not sure on the size though.

The holes on the sides to mount the rear seat back usually has a welded nut on the backside. It is a 8mmx1.25 nut-

The mounting bolt is usually a shouldered style.-

K, my threads look striped. Might need to just tap them. I'm missing those bolts. WW the place to get those shoulderd bolts?

The originals didn't look quite like that, but those are the ones that are available new. This is what they originally looked like...

Another option from the Samba classifieds. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?...ton=Search

Notice that there are seat mounting bolts and also seat belt mounting bolts. They are different. Your 1961 would not have had seat belts from the factory.

I should say - I bought a rear seat from another Samba-er and there is a pretty decent gap - around 1" when pushed to one side. Just wanting to see if those will work or if I need to figure out something else.
