I've been reading about hang gliding after looking at the pics and posts on this thread, what an amazing sport.
I don't mean to further derail the thread but this is worth watching. Its is a great video of old hang gliding footage that also happens to feature a bus at 4:34!

As has been said before... "Kurt You're a Legend!"
I was looking at the photos of Funky on the rotisserie throughout the thread.
I'm in the process of building the same type of rotisserie.
What I was wondering is how are you finding the wear on the rollers? Have they got bearings or just bushes? And would you change anything with them?
Cheers from Downunder.
Keep up the great work. _________________ 69 Kombi Camper

I am back from my hang gliding safari. Thunderstorms every day. Not much flying in Idaho this year. I will try Colorado next.
My wheels are rated at 400 pounds each. I think that is plenty, even for your bay window. They are steel with a solid plastic tire and a bronze bearing with grease fitting. There is no wear on them at all.
This rotisserie turned out to be much more stable than I thought it would be. If I were to make it again the only thing I would change is to make the front ring a couple inches more forward so the doors will open a little more.
Kurt

Cheers Kurt.
I've been looking around at wheels for the rollers here. Got some good options.
My mates all think I'm crazy because I've talked about your rottiserie since early 2013 when I first found your thread. There's a copy of your early pic with Funky held in place permanently in my phone to show them.
Funny how several of them have asked me to build one for them when I make mine!
Keep up all the Great work on Funky!
I vote for keeping the engine build in this thread too.
As it is with the Aussie Vee Dubbers site here I have anywhere up to a dozen tabs open in my internet at anyone time!

Full of questions Again!
What Diameter are your rotisserie rings Kurt?
I've worked out 2.8m for my Bay but seems pretty big.
Reckon my Beetle would end up looking like a penny spider in a 10 foot web when I re-use them! _________________ 69 Kombi Camper

My rotisserie is 2.5m. I mounted my bus as high as I could and still have room to paint the roof. A bay window bus is heavier with more weight in the bottom. It may have a tendency to roll back to level but not too bad. A larger ring will balance better. My front ring is 6" forward of the beam. I would make it 9" for more room to open the doors. Careful the doors don't fall open and hit the rings. They dent easily.
I would not use my rings for a beetle. Not necessary. A beetle pan could easily be spun on some pins instead.

But what about the body? It's gonna require some major bracing to prevent folding or tearing, but I wanna spin my rust-bug! _________________ Two Bugs-

Cheers Kurt.
My Super Bug probably wont be rotisseried. Mostly a body off pan to sort a few issues then all back together to make a semi Baja convertible. (it's already chopped.)
I have a 72 Holden Monaro, bit like a Chevelle, that would probably go in it next. So 2.5m might be ok. I'll do a bit of measuring for clearances before I roll it all up.
Am hanging out to see more of Your work mate! Enjoy Your gliding for now though. _________________ 69 Kombi Camper
