Did you get fumed out?

Leave it to you for that reflective response. No. I put fresh cartridges in my mask and have full face coverage. I pressurized the plastic bubble with filtered fans for good ventilation. I was amazed by how sticky the finish paint dust is compared to primer. A head sock is a must.

I can't believe I actually pulled this off. As I stare into that reflection I do have flashbacks from the two years leading up to this.

All is not perfect though. There are runs and sags that need to be fixed. I dropped my air gun and chipped my rocker. I need to move slower around the fresh paint.

I forgot to degrease my plate. These are the only fisheyes. I will remove it and strip it again.

I came across these old images of Funky's working days on construction jobs. He will be back on the job this year!

Great job on the truck! Only thing I have to ask though, with all the time and effort and detailed prep work, why didn't you use a Top Line paint system?

?

I googled "Top Line paint system" but could not find any specific references. The products I am using are very expensive and all have very good reviews.

So do we!! Awesome job Kurt, an inspiration to all of us who are trying to get the same outcome, but probably with fewer skills!

Not Top Line brand , but as in a higher quality (Sikkens, Glasurite, PPG Concept). It looked like you were using Nasson. Again no disrespect, the truck is coming out great, you don't want to have to do this one again any time soon, my thought on using the best paint available the first time.

By the way all paint is too expensive!, one of our worst costs at work.

Aww... that has to feel SSOO good having it all painted now! Looks great.

The bad news? YYUUPPP, more sanding, wet this time. lol

Just a suggestion Kurt, when I wet sanded my 67 bug that I painted single stage, I didn't always wet sand in one direction. I paid for it with additional time in buffing all those fine 2000 or 2500 grit sand scratches. After I buffed my hood with a course compound and wool pad, I still had sand scratches from the wet sanding paper.

I had to do it all over again. This time, I only sanded in one direction. Then, when I thought I was done with the wet sanding, before I started bufing, I got the panel wet and looked carefully for any fine scratches that were still on it. In some spots, I had to sand a little more to remove additional scratches that I missed. After insuring all the wet sanding scratches were removed by wetting it again and looking carefully with a good light, I then buffed it again. First with a course compound and then a polishing compound. What a difference when you don't see any scratches.

After I got done, I watched a show where a guy was wet sanding what was a 30k paint job he just completed. He also stressed only sanding in one direction. You see people on youtube and other sights that do circles with the paper and go in all directions. I found that to be NOT a good idea.

Do you have a goal date to have the truck all completed by?

Congratulations, so exciting to see it in red! Nothing is ever perfect, but anything can be fixed with a little time and....MORE SANDING Smile

nice video

I don't want to accuse you of being a fastidious planner, but it seems a great stroke of luck that you were able to locate footage of a funky old blue single cab spinning lazily on a rotisserie to match the red one Smile

it all looked like magic at first, but then i spotted your feet Smile

If I was a fastidious planner I would have taken a lot more video and pictures of the truck before I started. I wish I had pictures of all those huge loads I used to carry to the dump. I wish I had a picture of the day I found him down the street piled high with junk. $600 twenty years ago. Not bad for all those years use.
