Here is a pic of the bright red on the nose.

is it possible Westfalia was trying to match the busses to their tents or vice-versa?

Thanks for posting pics Jerry. I have to do the exact same repair on the westy I am currently work on. It seems those early rubber mats/pads really held moisture underneath. Is the other side the same?

No sir, but a po cut an opening behind the vent for some reason right next to the filler neck.
Masking tape from the horizontal pressings will get you pretty close FYI . Just not close enough for final fit.

Jason, I sure could use some help... A mini vacation to the Smokies is what you need! (Bring your grinder).

x3 on my 56 westy. It wasn't as bad, though, but still got that area replaced.
Then I drilled holes and screwed the og felt pad and rubber mat in place. Very Happy
It's just not getting left out in the rain anymore, like when we found it.

I told Paul this past weekend that his bus will never have any true credibility unless he repaints it dove blue first then puts the Westfalia colors over the top of that. Laughing

Thanks Garry.....see if I ever come by your place again Wink

How much could a gallon of dove blue paint possibly cost... Question

I sent my spindles to Arron at wide five and as usual he is at the top of his game.

He sends me this pic today and tells me that he was cleaning all the road grime off the caps and noticed the beige and red overspray over the black paint. Arron mentioned it appears that the overspray was done early in the buses life.

I tend to agree with him.

I am still not completely sure if the bus left westfalia dove blue or another color.

Those are the dust cap for the link-pins, on the inside of the spindles; I think you are thinking of the hub caps.

Brad, I am hurt that you would even think i would lower this bus. Laughing

my plan is original as possible, original to the bus 36 hp motor, split case tranny, RGB's.

I just got my (I think) original to the bus starter -L4-(April 1955) back from the starter shop who checked it out and replaced the bad solenoid with a NOS bosch solenoid.

I think original to the bus (date stamped) generator with original voltage regulator - picked it up two weeks ago from alternator/generator shop - new bearing, cleaned up and in working order.

This poor old bus has been through it.
There were numerous holes that had to be repaired in the buttcheeks.

Paul, you will have to buy some dove blue anyway for the engine compartment. Wink
